I don't know, I;ve been thinking about getting an e-reader because my library now lets you "check out" e-books. I haven't warmed up to it yet because, I like to have a solid book in my hand and turn the pages, use bookmarks, and to be able to physically see where I am at in a book. Not sure if I am going to like to look at a screen, is it ok on the eyes? Do they get hot?

I have a Nook, have had it since January 2010. Couldn't be happier. It does not get hot. If you get a nice cover, it really feels much like holding a regular book.

As for liking to know how far along in the book you are, the Nook has a status bar at the bottom, as well as which page, out of how many pages in the book you are on.

I believe the Kindle does the same with the pages, but instead of a status bar, shows the percentage of how far along you are.

I always did like seeing how much of the book I've been through before, and was worried I'd miss that. But now I just always check how many pages I'm in. So at least for me, I've just kind of use a new indictator, and get the same results.

I've actually done so much more reading since I got it, than I ever did before. And with Barnes and Noble, then send out a weekly email with book suggestions, NY Times Best Sellers, bargain books, etc., They also have a free Friday book every week. So I've found / read books I normally wouldn't have paid much attention to.

love my kindle. It also has status bar and page numbers that correspond to the real book. So you can tell someone reading the real book what page you are on.

Battery life if very long. I can usually read a whole book without charging, I'm a slow reader so that does matter.

I suggest you go look at a few and decide which one you like best. I have no experience with the other ereaders.

x2. I actually think you can't go wrong with whichever you choose. Most people I know have Kindles, and they love them just as much as I love my Nook.

If was going for a pure eBook reader I'd go e-Ink, probably a Kindle or Nook.

I have a Nook Color, it's great to read on, but I got it mainly for the ability to hack full android tablet on it.

Yeah, that'd be the Nook Color. They also have the new Nook Simple Reader that's similar to the Nook Color, but black and white. I don't think you can do all the apps on it like you can do on the Nook Color, but I'm not sure.

If I were looking for one now, I'd probably go with the Nook Simple Reader. 2 month battery life. Nice screen size. If you plan (or think you might) to get magazines on it, then I'd go with the color. But I think if it were me, at that point, I might go iPad.

Another question....Do these e-readers support PDF format documents? I get a lot of technical articles/reports in PDF format. Would be nice if I didn't have to sit at the computer to read them.

I really want one of these, but I dream of having a massive library of all my books when I'm older. As an english major, I even saved most of my books from school since they were all literature books versus normal course work.

I just like having books, and I fear the Kindle will sort of kill that. I mean, I know books will never "go away", but I can see it doing to books what the digital camera did to photos. My father has tons of photos from way back, because they were all stored in boxes or the negatives still exist. I can't even begin to guess the ammount of photos I pretend to have because they are online or on my computer, but will eventually be lost due to the fact that they aren't physical.

kindle does support pdf's. sometimes you have to send the pdf to mykindle web site to get it on the kindle, no problems there though.

This is what has been holding me back as well. But now . . . . .

I commute to NYC everyday on the train, there are books I haven't read due to not wanting to haul an 800 page book back and forth everyday.

How long does the battery last on the eink ones?

Pretty much my same thoughts on my Nook. The other thing that bothered me at first as well, was how it can be the same page number for 2-3 screen flips. But you after awhile, I just quit looking at the page numbers.

I've been upgraded from a Nook to a Nook Color. While the screen is less than friendly in the sun, the times i read in sunlight is rare. I love the NC because I can get magazines on it, and they're important magazines to be in color.

Plus the option to add videos onto it is even better, for road trips, so my GF's daughter can watch movies on something bigger than an ipod.

I am less than impressed with video over web, though. It might be the connection I was on, but it was choppy.

I recently purchased a Nook Color (NC) as well and noticed the web and videos were slow. Then I bought the N2A dual boot micro SD card that allows you to choose either the standard NC OS or Android OS. I now only run the Android OS. Video is MUCH better as well as internet speed. Not to mention with the recent addition of the Netflix app, I can stream movies and shows on a good size screen.

As for the OT, I love this more than e-reader, e-reader. Screen is really nice, font is super clear, ability to immediately look up words and make notes is great too. All around awesome device, however the speaker definitely needs some improvement.

Ordered myself a Kindle Keyboard yesterday. Went with the "special offers" version. For $50 less it seemed like a good deal.

Being delivered on Friday. I'm excited.

Very happy with my iPad 2. It is used exclusively for textbook pdfs. Some exceed 1400 pages with graphics and it performs beautifully.

Think I might get myself an iPad eventually. More expensive, but more functional me thinks.

I have the Nook Color, I love that it supports PDF and 5 other formats. I can read in the dark, or the semi-twilight day time in the PNW... You can also change the color of the background/font to make it easier on your eyes. It's has expandable memory whereas most don't. I have checked books out at the library; you can also read any book in eBook format for free for one hour every day at any Barnes and noble. Plus if you have kids it will read them stories... (<----BEST FEATURE YET). Also my sister and friends have one so we are always downloading each other’s books on each other’s nooks.

I still buy actual books but then again I am a junky when books are involved. The nice thing about the e-readers is when you commute to work on the bus it totally sucks to have to have a bag of books just in case you finish one... E-readers carry more than one!

My friend has a kindle and swears buy it. I couldn't figure out how to use the thing. Although the new kindle fire is supposed to be rad.

Awesome news. Barnes and Noble just released a Nook Tablet. Just pre-ordered.

I've been debating getting an iPad for the longest time, but LOVE my Nook, and couldn't see the point of having both. Now with the Nook tablet, I don't see anything I can't do on it, that I could on an iPad, plus it supports flash. And looks like it may be only slightly larger than my current Nook.

    I can't wait!

I've been toying with the idea of getting a kindle. But I am not sure how much I would actually use it as I haven't really been reading much in the way of books lately. Another thing, Amazon just recently added another perk to being a Prime member, you can borrow one book at a time from the kindle library. Kinda cool.

I haven't bought one yet, but I think I'm leaning more to a tablet instead only because you can do so much more with it.

I definitely understand where you're coming from. I love to read, but always found I'd get into some books, finish them, then go months and months before getting more. So huge long gaps between my reading.

Since I got my Nook almost two years ago, I haven't stopped reading. It just makes getting books so much easier. And B&N sends out weekly emails with new books, suggestions, etc. So I'm much more in tune of what's out there, than I was before.

Just got my new Nook Tablet yesterday. Loving it so far!

Didn't have all that much time to play with it, but did setup email, got my library downloaded, and read half a dozen chapters of the book I'm reading.

One feature (it's the simple things) that I LOVE, is that now I can just tape the screen, and it shows me info, like how many pages left in the current chapter. I like that!

Figured I'd give an update on my Nook Tablet. At first, was really digging it. But soon started to realize its shortcomings. Email was a bit of a pain. It didn't keep track of what had already been downloaded so once I deleted items from my inbox, next time checking email, it'd download again. It also can't do email on exchange server without requiring you to purchase a $20 app. Speaking of apps, not a lot of choices unless you root it, and very few (if any) free apps. The browser locked up on me several times forcing me to reboot. Also had many times when I,d be trying to post somewhere and the characters wouldn't show up on the screen. Had to keep restarting apps or browser until it'd finally start displaying what I was typing. So I gave up today, returned it and got an iPad.

I loved the idea of the Nook tablet but just don't feel it's quite there yet. Although its ereader app is awesome.

Yeah in my research I found that the tablet e-readers like the nook/kindle are really only good at one thing, reading e-books. If you want the functionality of the Ipad, really the only choice would be the ipad.

Read my first book on the Kindle Fire I got for christmas. Love it! Functionality is great! Might not be an Ipad but it's perfect for me.

I always thought that the e-readers would be the end of "printed word", but I may be biased because I love the feel of opening a new book, reading it and then seeing it on a shelf. Swore I would never own one, but then I got a kindle for Christmas. LOVE it! I travel a lot, so this works out great, not packing a bunch of books. Still doesn't stop me from buying certain books, because there are some I want in print. Get a good cover, and it feels like a real book.

My favorite place to go to kill some time is in trouble. Barnes and Noble, the last of the bookstores. I hope they make it.

Kindle Fire owner. I love it. great price, Amazon Prime is awesome, Wish I could borrow more than one book a month, but at 5 bucks for most books I usually just buy them.

Yeah, that's the one big drawback of the eReaders. It's WAY too easy to just click click click, and spend a bunch of money on books.

I'm finally starting to learn to download the samples. Part of my problem is that I have a pretty big list of books still to read. So when I see something I think I'd like, I don't want to forget about it, so I buy it. So now I'm downloading the samples so I remember them, but will give me a chance to see if it's something I'd like before I commit.
