Thread: FS: 1992 GTI 2.9L VR6 supercharged NOVA

  1. 07-10-2011 04:48 PM #1
    Sold sold sold sold sold

I have a 1992 MK2 GTI with a supercharged VR6 swap. It's in overall good condition. Body is in really great shape, minus a few minor issues with some plastic trim pieces (mainly a cracked wheel arch fairing and loose front grill due to the motor setup). The interior is in good condition considering the age. The headliner is missing the cloth covering. The manual sun roof works fine and seals well. The e-brake cable for the right rear wheel lightly drags occasionally only if you set it very hard the prior time you parked it. All it takes to get it loose is to tap the ebrake actuator assembly on that wheel. I'm guessing some grease or WD 40 may fix it.

Motor is in very good condition. Runs very strong, sounds amazing, the only thing to bear in mind is that it does need a head gasket. Once that is fixed you'll have yourself a very nice stage 2 V1 supercharged 2.9L vr6 motor.

I am selling due to problems registering it in VA because of the engine swap. Should not be an issue in other states. I also prefer to sell rather than trade only because I need the cash to fix my airplane. A partial trade for a reliable daily driver plus cash would be acceptable for the right amount. Car is located just a couple of miles northwest of the Washington Dulles Airport.

Asking $4500 OBO. Trades accepted on a case by case basis, subject to car/bike condition and or cash amount.

    Some pics for good measure:

NOTE: These BBS wheels are NOT the ones it will come with. You will be getting the 7 spoke Borbets as shown in all the other pics.

This is my old car. Very solid. Very fun.

Trade you, plus cash, for my wife's cabby? Shhhh, don't tell her.

Hahaha yeah I don't think that'd be a good idea since it was a wedding gift and all! Plus I don't have the long dreamy hair required for a cabby. Yeah shes a grey little car built well, I think I'd just prefer to have the airplane ;-)

Why can the car not be registered in VA? Is it a emissions issue? Not all counties in VA do emissions testing if thats the case.

Conrad in our county we need emissions when I got the car off of you I registered it in another county ...if you want to keep it just check the box that it garaged in prince William or Clarke or Frederick county they don't have emissions

Hmm yeah if I cant seem to sell it I guess I'll look into registering it like that. How can you get away registering it in another county when you put the address you live in and they go off that for tax purposes though.

My main reason for selling though is that I need to pay for some maintenance on my airplane so the fact I can't register it was kind of a deciding factor to sell

On the registeration card there's a little box that's says( garaged or primary garage)check that box and put Clarke or faquier ,prince William, frederick counties cause they don't have emissions .you will pay taxes on the car in whichever county you choose which will be also cheaper than loudoun and you don't need address if they ask tell them a family member is going to be using it .I never been asked btw....

Thanks for the interest ej, I'll let ya know if I ever change my mind.

And thanks taymk2. If I can't get this to move, I'll definitely look into registering it in one of those other counties

What part of Nova you in? im in leesburg and im looking to sell my rabb for a more classic vw. Would love to take a look.
When i was in NYC, i was eating at a restaurant with my friend when Bill Murray passed by, took a french fry from our basket, dipped it in ketchup, ate it and said:"No ones ever going to believe you" before walking out.

Ahhh so your the one who built it! I was wondering if I'd ever hear from ya. Yeah she's a great car through and through! Did a good job man. I really do love driving this car and I really want to keep it but I'm just looking at other possibilities involving airplanes :-P. Definitely one of the most fun cars I've driven though. Are you going to H2O this year? If I still have her I'll be there, you should stop by and introduce yourself
