I am sure the NHL and Shanny is very happy that Shelley was the person to do it. He is a perfect player to make an example of because he has a past history and isn't very useful as a player. Makes you wonder if it would have been the same suspension if it was a star who hit from behind, then they would have a difficult decision to make.

I think it should be 10 regular season games. Who cares about suspending him for 4 pre-season games? He would probably only have played in 2 of them anyway..That's the part that makes no sense.

That being said, you want to see your young players do well and ultimately win the game. Winning is contagious. I've never been able to turn my "compete" on or off.

Yeah I have no problem with it. There's no upside to hits like that.

By the same token, they need to watch the embellishment from players who purposely turn their backs to defenders 2-3 feet from the boards and then leap at the boards when touched. A defender needs to be able to play defense vs. a guy with his back turned and near the boards. This did not apply to the Shelley hit. That was a good call and proper suspension.

If you read back pages I said all the trades helped the Flyers and actually said they will have incredible depth, go ahead and check the history around the Carter/Richards deals. Oh but I guess you were not around when the die hards were posting about hockey still. You just came in to say "YAY WE BEAT THE LEAFS IN A PRE-SEASON GAME".

The funny part are the people who don't understand why he's here. Look at the new prices for lower level tickets. In this economy it's not easy to sell $120-$160 tickets for a reg. season game. He'll help sell those while the new kids develop. People pay big money to see stars, not rookies.

Also his work ethic, attitude, and the fact that he's one of the greatest players of all time serves as a pretty good role model for Schenn, Voracek, Simmonds, Couturier, and even JVR and Giroux. If he gets 40 points it was still a brilliant move.

Amazing how this team went from old to having all of these 18-21 yr. old players drafted in the top 8.

Voracek is looking very good.......Look for him to flourish with Jagr and the talent here vs. Columbus.

I can't speak for gamecenter but I have NHL center ice and playoff games are NOT included. Not that it matters, in Canada between CBC, TSN1, TSN2 we get every playoff game.

I don't think you get EVERY game. You certainly don't get every game in HD, which is all I'll watch. I had it last season to watch Detroit and I have to say I saw almost every game. It was rare that the game wasn't on HD. I don't know if it's the same deal now but I think they have even more HD channels this year compared to last so you get an average of 5-6 games on per night. When you add that to your local channels, there is always hockey on, it's pretty cool.

Well you need to balance the cost vs the games you get. For me it costs $200/season so if I get to watch even 40 Red Wings games then that's only $5/game which is totally worth it imo. I usually watch more games than that though and my gf is a Colorado fan so we watch maybe 15 Avs game/year also. We get our moneys worth for sure.

Remember I got it for the same reason you want to, to see a team play that you usually don't get to see. I thought it was totally worth it to watch my team play 2-3 times a week. I don't know if they show all the Canucks games, I can only speak for the Detroit games I saw last season.

If you can swing the cash, then do it. I also found it was great for those nights where there is NOTHING on TV or you are totally bored or can't sleep. I'd just put on the TV and a late game would be on all the time

so hockey had a bad summer, and now a bad preseason... its been open season for head hunting out there, like jesus didn't anyone get the updated rule book? it seriously feels like one big joke out there. brendan shanahan is probably gonna lay out more suspensions this PREseason then all of last season

until the owners, gms and coaches decide to rid the game of the goonery, it's not going anywhere. regardless of the suspensions.

losing a thug for 5 games doesn't really hurt a team...the league needs to impose penalties on the organization or coaching staff if they want anything to change...

Agreed, Shelley got 10 games but who cares because he may not play in the regular season much anyway, if he does it's only a few minutes/game.

Even if they fine the coach or organization it'll still happen. I know this is a dumb idea but what they need to do is start docking points from the team at the year end, like a team point penalty. If you loose a point for a 10 game suspension then teams will think twice before playing those goons.

The other option is if you are a repeat offender, hit them with a 30+ game suspension, sit them for 1/2 the year, that will make them think twice!!!

Actually the instigator rule is what is prohibiting protection for the good players. There is no such thing as protection anymore dude. That's why players like Savard, Crosby etc..get hurt, they have no protection. What good is a goon when he is never on the ice?

They need to allow enforcers who have SKILL to be able to protect, back in the days when Probert was protecting Yzerman, he scored 29 goals one season, he played more that 2 minutes/game.

Remove the instigator rule and you will solve a lot of problems.

One of the Bruins pre-season games wasn't televised due to NESN showing the Red Sux blowing any chance of a playoff appearance. So, the one and only internet feed I could find was from Montreal, and it was in French...and I watched it anyway!

Center Ice I know includes first round for sure, well they did last year anyways, and I think the non-nationally televised second round games? Not for sure about Gamecenter.

I had entered a drawing for the chance to buy the one of the last two pairs of tickets available on Ticketmaster. The BALCONY seats were going for $350 for the pair. And no, that's not from a resale agent, that's face value from ticket master! Cheap seats for other games have gone from $70 the last couple years to $100-125 this season. Looks like I will be going to WAY more Providence Bruins games this year!
