I'm already thinking about SoWo 2013... Came stupid fast and went by stupid fast.. Sucks.

Hopefully cutting out a sway bar and possibly doing a frame notch on the Wagon today.. We shall see.. If all goes well maybe Control arm bushings too.

May 17th - 19th! Im already trying to change things up now. More loweredness for sure. Im suprised you havent had to cut the sway out already! Were you rubbing bad this past weekend? I would like to see how the notch turns out if you do it. I need to do my bushings as well.. been sitting on a set of .:R bushings for a while now, just havent wanted to do it since I will really need an alignment afterwards.

Which btw, anybody got any recommendations on where to get an alignment done? Besides Protech.. I cant afford their pricey prices! lol

In for a recommend. Last time i went in and trled to at protec they didnt act like they were very interested in doing it and cited mostly working on porsche. Whatever, left not to return. First impressions count.

I have heard their is a good place in Spartnburg, but thats a hike just or an alignment.
    Thx!

You pay for what you get. I personally know the guys at Protech and you will not find an owner of a shop in greenville that is more out going and friendly. first impressions do count but before you judge you may want to check yourself before hand. Just Sayin.

?!? Lets see, go to shop and ask about alignment. Tell them I was referred by a good friend (whom they acknowledged) who had a crapload of work done on his Porsche over 2 years and they were his "go to" shop for anything automotive and referral by several people on this forum as well.

I wanted to like them, wanted to give them a chance, wanted to give them my money, but they didn't seem to want anything to do with it. It was an older gent that came out and looked at the car and gave me the uninterested attitude and cited about primarily working on Porsches. Maybe he was having a bad day. At any rate, it was neither of these guys:
http://protechmotorsports.net/protech5.html which I'm guessing are the owners.

So I'm not sure why you telling me to check myself. Glad you know these guys, but on that day they had an employee push a potential customer away. It is what it is.

edit - just noticed your sig as Syndicate. I guess that explains the accusation that I needed to check myself before hand.

so considering this seems to be an isolated incident and no one knows whom the person you spoke to is, i would recommend going back down there and make an appointment and be ready to pay ~$175-200 depending upon the complexity of your car; they will even corner balance the car for you if you would like, of course that would be an extra fee.

remember there are always bad days, everyone has them, i am sure you have not stopped eating at your favorite, or even not favorite restaurant b/c you either had bad fries or a bad waiter one time....also keep in mind, these guys work on race cars A LOT, so the alignment equipment is not particularly suited to the everyday driving car...will it work, yes, it is the most practical, probably not....but you can either go to discount tire and have some high school flunky align your car, or you can have a shop with over 50yrs combined experience work on your car....

hope you find someone to help you out....if not a tape measure and a couple ramps will get your close enough for horseshoes and hand grenades! it is only a volkswagen, most only have toe adjustment on the front not sure on the mk5 R, but the mk4 only has toe front and rear, so its pretty easy to get close at home...as me how i know

Well, it was roughly a year ago. Spoke with one of the women up front. She was nice enough. The guy that i spoke with about the alignment was older, balding on top, gray on the sides, can remember much else about his person.

Your are right about not giving up a favorite restaurant for one bad experience, but I would if it was the first time there.

They may have a boat load of exp, idk. There are many ways to tally 50 years combined exp. 1 guy 50 years, or 10 guys at 5 years. Ill give the benefit of doubt here and say its probably close to 2 guys at 25 years.

No one said i was looking for cheap, not even myself. I was told about 160 for the work and im fine with that. But when you act like you dont want to schedule the time because you "mainly work on porsches", well...

Hopefully the last paragraph wasnt derogatory and meant to imply stupidity on my part. Im versed in home alignment but dont think it is optimum and who wants to waste a grand on tires when they wear out because its not computer perfect.

    Cheers

My signature has nothing to do with this. I am me with or without that signature

I made that statement completely based on the fact that you are expressing your negative experience with a local business that you have had encounters with.. If your not going to support them as a local business, Then dont express your negativity for others to gain bad opinions as well. If I didnt know them personally, I would take your post and automatically judge them as a bad business in which they are not. I have spoken with a number of their customers through small talk and I have yet to hear any of them complain about Prices, Customer service, Attitudes, or Services in general.. Like Houck said "Everyone has bad days". We all do, business owners or not.

So with that mentality, its not OK to warn someone else about a bad exp, only a good one.

Anyone that doesnt research a business first is a fool. I did and went there expecting something great and recieved quite less than that. I completely have the right to express that. If you or anyone else reads eimething on the internet and interprits as 100% fact all the time for everyone, well then if I read someones post that says men can breastfeed then it MUST be true, no? Research!

I support local businesses, not the big chains, every day just about. In fact my post was asking about other local ones just as dubluv did But by your comments you would think your the only one that does.

Maybe your in tight with protec and thats why you feel the need defend.

People have the right to hear the good AND the bad. Sorry if that offends you.

    Good For You

I've heard good things about Parr 3 Automotive in Boiling Springs. Friends of mine take lowered FWD cars there.. Good work. Good prices from the feedback I've heard so far. Dont know about 4 wheel alignment but its possible. Alignment shops around greenville seem to steer clear of anything lowered and FWD..

well the guy you talked to was likely one of the owners...but again, likely back to the bad day point....it is hard to tell though, there is a lot that can be left open to speculation/interpretation...i would recommend going down there again, or simply calling and making an appointment, i know personally when they do an alignment the car will handle amazing....Frank actually did Joel Brunets car, and before he slammed lord who knows how many pot holes that car drove amazing...i was actually quite jealous the next time i got back in my R....

    well the 50yrs is more like 1x 25, 1x 20, 1x5+....but i understand your point....

honestly 160 is a good price, espcially from them...to the attitude, i would speculate that a majority of that attitude is due to customers or potential customers (i will lump them in to the non-Audi and Porsche group) will come down there, burn 30mins asking questions, then never come back...so that leaves a bitter taste in any persons mouth when you have basically given away 30mins of you day for no return....but on the converse i completely understand that is a cost of doing business....

last part was in no way meant to be derogatory, my apologies, i only brought it up b/c that is how both of my cars are currently aligned ....but then again the R has nangkang tires on it, so i can buy tires for slightly more than an alignment

good luck in getting the car dialed...i would recommend giving the guys at PT a second shot....you will not be disappointed in the quality of the work

Just giving in my 2 cents, Frank was under my car for at least an hour and a half to two hours dialing in my R and it was no easy deal, but he did get it done awesomely! Like Houck said, my car is lowered and it felt just amazing! This was more than a year ago and I just can't even imagine how many pot holes and uneven pavement I've slammed, and it still drives awesome.

Seriously dude, go over there and give em another shot, trust me they are great individuals with great service.

Lol at you guys. But, I am gonna pipe up here and say real quick.. This is not a battle ground over petty things, especially personal attacks, like the syndicate comment. So with that being said play nice guys.

On the other hand, I'm not slammed but lowered and can't get any one to touch my car for alignment. I've even been told that since I have a lug bolt application and not studs, that they don't want to be liable for my wheel falling off.. (whatever) But, like you said houck, it's only a toe alignment.. Which in my opinion shouldn't cost 170.00 bucks like I was quoted. But if you wanna play you have to pay I suppose. Was really just hoping that some one else had a different location that they get their alignment done at that isn't a specialist for higher end cars that will work on a lowered vehicle. One day I will be ballin and actually have a Porsche but until then it's most likely it's just tire kingdom and a VW lol

    Reply pulled from my arse.

My car is fairly low. There is a place on 123 in Easley. Carolina tire. They usually charge me about 50$ to do the front end. The kid that works the counter is a tool but the guy on the alignment machine is slightly older and it seems like he cares about what he does.
It's good enough for what it is.

I'm not a Greenville guy, but I'll toss my 2 cents in for help... when I put my coilovers on, I took my car up to Certec Automotive on Roxie Dr. in Concord, and they did an excellent job. They set my car up on the lift, allowed me to come back and adjust my height, and did a 4-wheel alignment for less than a hundred bucks. Everyone was very friendly, and they did an awesome job, it rides like a dream now. Oh, and I'm not some paid asshat, I just got a good deal and thought I'd share.
