16" Biolines w/Bliazzak's through the winter and 17" Goals with ContiPro Contacts in the summer. A lot of our driving is in the city and if you buzz through my Fuelly history you can see spikes where the all HWY trips were.
We're just in the process of moving out of the city and up here in the mountains we usually see 42+.

17 Conti's 75% city, all around 36mpg at 18k miles. Best roadtrip 44.

That also depends on your commute. We put over 50k miles on the car in its first year. If you do less than 15 or 20, sure, the offset in mpg won't make much of a difference. That's why I don't mind running 93 in the GTI - I only drive that around locally. The TDI is for long trips. I can go almost twice as far in the TDI than in the GTI. And the price isn't that much different.

Anywhere from 65-80 depending on the speed limits. Usually settle down around the 70-75 range over long distances.
I have been able to get over 800 miles from a single tank before. Granted, that was a straight shot, only stopping twice for food / restroom, but it's possible. In the GTI I try and keep the boost gauge at or below 10 vac to maximize fuel. I got nearly 40 mpg (39.1) with it on my recent trip to Alabama.
It's all about how and when you apply the go pedal. Over long distances, I find it insanely entertaining to try and get high mpg if I'm not pressed for time.

This is what I would see when I was driving 190+ miles daily about a year or so ago. Trip is accurate. Reset at every fill up.
And that's what my daily morning drive would look like. 90 miles each way over two mountains, and through DC metro traffic on 270 and 495 - going 70-80mph most of the way.
These cars can get incredible mpg, you just have to learn the accelerator.

That is my problem. These cars are so fun to drive, that it is so hard to get the best mileage. Additionally, lead is entirely too light to describe my foot. One thing I have always heard is that drivingat a lower attitude would help mileage, but I have not necessarily seen that, at least going from 6500 ft to about 3000 ft. I think that is primarily because of the ECU adjusting the fuel/air mixture. Thoughts?

I should add that I have yet to have an all 'highway' roadtrip. Lot's of cruising at different speeds, stoplights in small towns, etc. Just hit 18k and serv. tech. says it should continue to get better and does seem to be creeping up. I do typically, drive 5-10 over speed limit....just can't help myself.

Hartmann Euromesh 3 wheels wrapped with 225/40-18 Falken Ziex 912 high-performance all-season tires
2012 DSG.
Kinda disapointed in my MPG. When using identical driving styles. I get about 5-6 mpg less then my wifes DSG 08 GTI with 18inch denvers or whatever they are called with Kumho something or other tires
I got caught up in advertised MPG because they seemed fantastic [and they are] compared to the car I had at the time, b6 S4.

Those are both way higher numbers then I see in either car over a full tank. WAY over.
If I drive both cars with a lead foot the GTI takes a much bigger hit.
But with reasonable driving no 0-60 runs ect thats what I get and have gotten for the GTI over 30k plus miles and 13k plus miles in the TDI.
With your mileage. Over the course of a 13 gallon tank your GTI is getting the same as my tdi. 480 or so miles between fillup??

42 mpg combined over 20,000 miles.
MPG takes a hit in the winter when I take off the LRR tires and put on snows.

Yeah. my Average speed from md to al was 75mph (very high speeds down there - was doing 90-100 for almost an hour at one point) and I actually even took on the tail of the dragon at full speed on my way back. I do see 35-37 mpg trip averages but inevitably i come across a situation where driving the car is far more fun than it should be and screw the overall tank
In the TDI though, it's MUCH easier for me to get 45-50 mpg
Oh, also, I never run the tank below the last tick on either car (old habit from my last tuned car w/walboro hpfp) so the fillup isn't 13gal, little less.

I have yet to see over 46mpg highway, that being said if I had less mountain driving to do I'm sure I would fair better. That being said I am certainly not disappointed with my JSW.

We averaged 48 mpg for the 1,400-mile round trip to the Outer Banks. Both bikes fit in the JSW.
2008, 2009, and 2010 in my 2003 A4 Avant 3.0q with both bikes on the roof were: 20.8, 21.5, and 22 mpg, respectively.

Everyone at work that recommended a person that was hired was put in a lottery for two Escapes. One chancefor each person hired. A lot of people had multiple chances. Some had 10. My wife had one chance, and they called her name.
The CEO said that employee referrals saved the company $3.5 million in recruiters fees, advertising, etc. Two vehicles is a nice way to say thank you to employees.
She really likes it. Much more than she thought she would
The company even grossed up to cover taxes.
My wife was concerned about drivign somethiing that big, since she was driving a 2002 snap orange New Beetle. The Escape is shorter than the 1997 Passat she drove for years, and it is 2 inches narrower than her TT.
The Escape is even shorter than my JSW.

It really is down to driving style more than anything else. You need to learn to use the road to your advantage as well.
Technically coasting in gear (manual) you are engine braking car is in decel mode and not injecting fuel. This can be good if coming to a stop. Coasting in neutral (not really safe) on the other hand if not coming to a stop means you aren't scrubbing speed and wasting momentum you already used diesel to create.
If you incorporate good throttle control into proper coast vs decel techniques then you can really crank out some great mpg on these things.
My best tank is 51mpg going little over 600 miles, includes a few pee/stretch brakes and an hour of sitting still in traffic with some creeping every so often. Average was about 65mph with that hour stopped factored in. I do mid 40s on that same trip with an average speed of just over 70mph.
Edit: on the 51mpg trip that would have put me at a theoretical 700+ mile tank but the last 10 miles or so of my trip were super hilly windy back roads and I had no clue where I was going to get fuel so tried not to push it.. I had just about 640 miles on that tank and just under 13 gallons when I filled up. I never top off I always just go until the click.

Just bought a 2010 JSW TDI 6-speed with 28K on it, previous owner got 589 out of his last tank. My first tank I did 550 miles = 39.86MPG's. I'd say 2/3 was highway and the other was city driving. I was not very easy on it either. I'm very happy with it so far.
