So I'm going to be getting the EuroImage motor mount spacers for my VR since my axle is binding on the driver side pretty bad, and I've been told that at 23" FTG I will need a frame knotch.
My question is, what kind of saw/grinder do you need for this and is there possibly a DIY somewhere?

get yourself a corded drill and a 3" hole saw with a pilot bit, such as shown below. then make a half circle cutout in your frame. dont forget to weld in a piece of rounded steel and paint over it so the bare metal from your notch isnt exposed to the elements.

      leads to

      which lets you do this

Thats how we did mine as well. I had a hole saw that had an electromagnet on it that i was able to get to stick to the frame (was extremely nice). Make sure you reinforce it and put some undercoating on there.

as mentioned above get a hole saw bit (I used a 2.5") drill it through then get a piece of 2.5" piping and cut it to size then weld/grind.

Here is mine before I sprayed the rubberized undercoat

So will the hole saw fit on any drill? Or will I need to get a better drill than say a batter powered one?

will probably need a corded drill to get through the frame

make sure you know or know someone what can weld before you start cutting ****

This. You don't want to leave that **** open/exposed...and you most likely want something corded..or borrow/rent one if you cant. It's pretty tough cutting through the frame. Took me and my buddy a little while even with that electro magnet on mine. You're going to want to use a lot of cutting oil as your doing it too..

Are you guys welding the inside part as well? I couldnt imagine fitting the welder in there...oh, and where are you guys getting the rubberized undercoating from?

Local auto parts store should have the rubberized coating.

i was the same way, but after my 90mile drive home right after i got it done i felt perfectly ok with it. as long as youre sure to weld in a piece and paint it after making the notch youll be good. it's a pretty straight forward process.

it can be done if you get that corner up as high as possible. we didnt use a 'rubberized' undercoating, instead we sprayed on a few coats of industrial undercoating paint (maybe it's the same stuff? heck idk...lol)

Krylon makes "rubberized" undercoating..you can even get it at home depot in the paint section.

We had a really hard time welding the notch on the inside/engine bay side when we did mine. Was really hard to get the welder in there and be able to see what we were doing. We got it welded a little bit on that side, the couple tiny little areas we couldn't get to i siliconed up to make sure it stays nice and kosher. The spots we did weld though, we did some hardcore welds. that thing isn't going anywhere..that pipe we welded in place is like 5/8in thick.

Also, this took us a long time to do mine as well..i would say 5 or 6 hours. It took us a long time to fab up the plate we made to reinforce it and cut the pipe to the proper length for the notch

ya. it freaked me out good when it happened. was just crusiing/having fun driving..shifted into 2nd and BAM. started hearing a really bad axle on frame noise..luckily i was able to drive it home and get it fixed up within a couple days. Just fyi, i only have bolt on mods and apr stg 2..nothing serious. so it wasn't like i was trying to put a crap ton of power to the ground when this happened..just that weak point in the axle screwed me pretty good. oh well..live and learn.

So right now I'm a little above 23" would it be ridiculous to install the spacers and knotch later, or will the rubbing be unbearable?
