So.....I missed my self-imposed "back down on all fours by Christmas" deadline by about 20 days life can be fun sometimes.

I got the last of my new parts pressed in by my local shop this past Thursday

....and worked on installing all Friday night

New bearings, hubs, and strut inserts(till I can afford coils)---Neuspeed springs for now

    AT LONG LAST!!!--approx. 1am

First time outside on all four wheels in about 8 months

Not pretty, but still a fine sight to behold right now.....

Trying to finish hooking brakes back up, and get the motor mechanically fit for install. Anyone reading this that feels like helping, PLEASE pm me!

    Engine parts needed:

    Gasket set(complete)
    Lw flywheel
    New oil pump
    Main&rod bearings
Reinforced drain pain with turbo fitting

In my daily---maybe. My buddy wants to go up, we both roll MKV's as dailys. Without a mass amount of good luck and/or free parts, this bunny wont make it to GA until 2013

Try not to roll the car around without axles in it. You might've already killed the bearings.

Unfortunately, yes. Premature failure could occur. If you have some outer axle flanges, put them in and tighten them down! Either way nice progress/project.

Thank you very much for the heads up. Can anyone elaborate on this? How does simply tightening a axle flange in the hub keep the bearing from harm?.....with very little weight resting on them?

The end of your axles is what keeps the bearings seated/assembled properly. Here is a shot of my axle stubs mounted-

This allows me to roll the truck around without worrying about bearing damage.

I took care of THIS^^^today..........and had a little time left over, so I decided to get back to sanding/prepping my P-Slots

    From THIS:

    To THIS:

I am happy with the way these have come out so far. My buddy paints for a living, and will be shooting these next week----silver metallic faces, black "P's" and centers. I also started degreasing and prepping my calipers-----I'm thinking red as the new color. As always, the progress of this build is slow because of monetary reasons---but trying to stay positive and keep inching forward towards the goal

    Small gains made each day

I had a little time after work, and before dinner---so I decided to have at thee!

    From THIS:

With lots of simpleGreen, wire brushing, brakeKlean, a little clever masking, and some VHT 900 degree caliper paint......

    THIS:

New braided Stainless lines were also added. Gotta get pads and rotors before I can mount these---but I felt like being productive today

As always, if anyone has parts on my "to acquire" list, please pm me

After much thought I have decided to freshen them up, instead of trying to go all-out custom on them. My friend who sprayed the engine bay will be re-shooting them......faces will be minty-fresh silver metallic, "P's" and centers will be black. This will give me something decent to roll on until I can afford my dream wheels........Turbo's

As for fitting the P-slots, and spacer suggestions?----perhaps 10mm in the back, 5 up front? Skip the spacers?

Surfing the interWebz, stumbled across these:

    http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/pts/2801207619.html

    OR

    http://tampa.craigslist.org/psc/pts/2765264599.html

Both are located within 20 mins of me, and I think either would be pretty cool. Thoughts? Tire size suggestions?

I like the 195/45. You can get a Falken for $86 a tire from tire-easy.com

Here is my MK2 Coupe with "Sluts" and 195/45's Toyo T1R's (NLA)-

Posted in the 8v forum and got no response, so......

    Performance 8vT question

Building the 1.8 8v with a T3, and wanted to know if anyone has used this: http://www.bahnbrenner.com/vw_audi/p...al_Head_Gasket

Pretty pricey.........is there a cheaper alternative? I dont plan to run insane boost----but would like to have the option to up it a little in the future......any thoughts? Thx in advance

    Still THIS^^...........but:

While funds are still scarce until my tax return arrives, I decided to keep plugging along on prep work.

The JH pictured was purchased from another Vortex member, and is in pretty good shape. It came equipped with a freshly rebuilt head, G-grind cam, and T3 turbo. I will be getting new main, rod, and IM shaft bearings, all new gaskets and seals, new oil and water pumps, Timing belt + tensioner, and new ARP head studs. I have some parts, but until I can order the rest, I started to disassemble and clean up the motor---sorting the pieces that will go to PowderCoat and to the machine shop.

    I got some expert help........

To aide the teardown and rebuild, I snagged this beauty off of CL

$25 WITH the vise and rack!!

After removing the accessories I got to work with my drill and wire wheel:

When the head comes off to install the new head studs I will be spraying the block gloss black, the head will remain bare aluminum.

The parts on the right will be PC'd black.......parts in the box on the left will be PC'd silver. The IM shaft and flywheel will be going to the machine shop to lose some weight

I hope to have ALL the parts to build the motor in the next few weeks-------still very foggy on what to do about ignition since I will be switching to MS standalone. I did SEARCH, but was unable to find a good JH + MS + T3 thread

More updates soon, thx for looking!

Bag, VERY little progress---but sharing what I have done......

First two P-sluts finished, not bad for doing them myself(IMO)

Likely to receive some Hate, but I wanted a fresh look for an old wheel

In the car, not much of anything new.....got my brake booster block-off plate installed and FINALLY got my hands on the grille I've wanted forever!

Did manage to get sort of start on exterior prep----front fenders are now dent-free, shaved, and skim-coated

The DUI moron almost killing my wife & kids and destroying the passat has put a strain on my progress, but I did pick up a new daily (wife gets the MKV ) to enjoy until the cabby is complete
