Thread: 2006 Passat 2.0t-Heavily modified!-Low miles

  1. 07-13-2011 09:47 PM #1
Up for sale is my 2006 Passat 2.0T. I hate to sell this car, but it is time to move on to the next project. I know what this car is worth if it was stock, but since it is so far from stock I will have to make an educated guess on what to sell it for with all of the modifications. I thought about returning it to as close to stock as possible, but I would rather not if I can sell it like it is. I would like to get $23,000 OBO considering all modifications. I will listen to any offers. Please no trades unless you have a boosted corvette or something, haha! I still have parts for the car that are not installed yet. Its an automatic transmission. It is united gray with black interior. Pictures will be posted once I find my SD card. Mileage is 48837 (mostly highway miles). Only 93 octane Shell gas and Pennzoil full synthetic was ever put in the car. Car is capable of 32+ MPG cruising at 75 MPH. This car is a blast to drive. It is very comfortable and smooth to drive. I will do my best to answer any questions you may have. Here are the list of mods:

I think you are asking a bit too much for this car. IMHO. Also it would be nice to know what tunes are on the fully loaded ECU. And another honest opinion is that most of the "mods" are cosmetic. I honestly dont see 23k worth of mods on here. But GL with the sale.
Black 2010 GTI MT, DXD Stage 2 Endurance Clutch, Stage 1 APR, lower tq mount insert, 20% tint all around, APR Carbonio Stage 1 Intake
Black 2010 PaCCat Sport MT, beluga racing downpipe, stage 2 lower tq mount insert, DieselGeek Sigma 6-Speed SSK, Stage 2 APR, Injen Intake
Black 1991 GTI with Stage 4+ G60 Rallye Golf Swap

you are accurate in saying that a lot of the mods are cosmetic. if there were any more engine/performance mods i couldve done to the car i wouldve. with the auto transmission, i was told, the car couldnt handle much more. i added up the receipts and $6354.98 are engine/performance mods. cosmetically there is $5897.72 done. I guess you could say its about half and half. I have all receipts to show these dollar amounts. if you actually add these values to what KBB is saying the car is worth stock it comes out to $27,252.70. I know its not realistic to ask that amount for the car, so thats why the asking price is where it is. i thought that was a good place to start. I will take less for the car than im asking, but i would like to get something kinda close to it. I stated that im open to offers. the ecu has the 91 octane, 93 octane, 100 octane, security lockout, and FCE/TBA from APR. you can not put anymore programs on the ECU. these were all that will work with this car.

I know what a fully loaded ecu is. I have it on my mkvi. But you never specified is why I asked. Glws. Like I said before I'd be interested but the price is a little high.

    At the max $20k
You never really get your money back from modifications. IMHO

Cars are NOT investments, money you spend on modifications are only worth what YOU want to pay for them, unless you have a doppleganger out there who likes everything you do, everyone elses looks at your "work" as lessening the vehicles value to them. If I spend $10K on a car, another $2K on mods and drive it for a few years, it is not worth $12K. It will be worth what the devaluation of that car has encountered for the time I have driven it, and if I have "improved" it with modifications, it will be worth even less to get it back to stock condition. Understand??? So If you spent a sh!tload of cash on your ride, and drove it for a while, it is only worth what the current value of it, with its mileage, for the year that it is. Your "Investment" into any mods that you did only really decrease its value, and popular to what you may think, make it worth even less. I do not think in a million years that KBB would appraise a 2006 Passat w/ 50K on the clock at $27K, considering you probably paid less for it new. I would recommend you go to edmunds.com, since they are close to what dealerships use for their pricing. I went ahead and priced it myself, saying that you had ALL the options and was in EXCELLENT condition (the best value they offer...), it said the trade in value was $11,322, the private sale value (which is what your asking...) is $12,895, and the dealer resell (keep in mind they can offer a free extended warranty, which you can't...) is $14, 572. I am not trying to be a dick, but I am tired of seeing people on here who think they have a porsche and really have a VW. If you think your car is some piece of art or has some sentimental value to you, that's all you. No one is going to pay you anything close to 20k+ for your 06 Passat with almost 50K on the clock. I understand you have spent a lot of money "hooking up" your car, but that was your choice, and NO ONE is going to consider what you have done an IMPROVEMENT to the car, most will think you are a kid who has been racing it and tearing it up. I know you won't like this post, but like I said, people need to realize that cars are not investments, and whatever you did to your car was for your enjoyment, not others. Any sentimental value you get from your car is yours alone, and does not transfer into a higher value to others looking to buy a car.
