tis the switch that tells the car that the clutch is depressed so the starter can do its thing....basically it is the interlock that stops you from starting the car while its still in gear

Throttle response was greatly increased. Not like it all of the sudden it runs like a it has a turbo but before the switch it was just sluggish/heavy to get up to speed in first and second. Now it runs, I guess, like it's supposed to. To me it felt like a whole new car and nice to have cruise control again.

EDIT: Clutch switch is the the green plunger right behind the pedal of the clutch. Right next to the BLS which was a common failure in our cars when they were new. VW recall.

Sounds like that would be a defective switch in the steering wheel, then, right?

Not saying you're wrong, but why would there be a fuse between the wheel and the horn that doesn't effect the function of the horn itself?

Oh, and SO excited because i'm getting the recall replacement on my ignition coils tomorrow. Hopefully it clears this damn O2 sensor glitch for once and for all. (And they have one of the new R's in stock, so i plan to test drive it while i wait. )

There are 2 horns for dual tone, but I've removed one to fit an intercooler in my mk4. Check both wires on each as well as the switch or fuse like everyone else has said.

I haven't touched anything since my initial look. I went back in last night & noticed the water level had receded & that there was sand & silt left behind. That's what's clogging it. I can either clear the sand & have it happen again, or open the nipple so rain makes the tubing self cleaning. I updated the old thread yesterday, & am going to take a picture in daylight. Last nights picture had flash bounce off the tubing obscuring the detail inside the tube.

I know all about leaking tops. My other car is an M Roadster with a leak between the top & body where the butyl seal no longer works.

that makes me think that the car had an invisible code thrown. one that you could only see with a reader and wouldnt throw the light on the dash. that will definitely make the car feel peppier and more responsive.

I noticed the headliner in the mirror today. You should never notice the headliner in the mirror. The fabric is separating from the base at the back on the passenger side, but why wouldn't it? It's only doing what the pillar covers already did.

Needs a new wheel bearing more than likely. Does it get louder when you turn in a certain direction?

That's what I'm thinking. At first it wasn't all the time but now it's a constant metal to metal sound. And yeah it usually gets louder when turning..

A ratlle coming from somewhere, sounds like the exhaust. Checked the cat heatshield, put the cable in there just in case it was, checked the flapper arm and clamped it out of the way just incase thats what the rattle was. Running out of ideas here! Maybe the cat itself :/ Anyone in SEPA wanna go for a ride and check it out!?

I didn't notice it until it started getting colder out. Seems to get a little less noticeable as the engine heats up but never totally goes away.

I have the same issue with cold starts for about a minute but mine eventually goes away. It only happens with the flapper switch in the closed position though.

But since my switch stopped working and my flapper is always in the open position it doesn't make noise anymore... Masking one problem with another haha

Did you have the flapper mod before the problem started?

I did the flapper mod the day i bought it in the home depot parking lot. That was in the summer and I never noticed the rattle. Since it has gotten colder I hear the rattle and thought it was the flapper being wide open and rattling against the little metal stop. I clamped it so they wouldnt touch anymore. Sooo now I'm not sure what the rattle is. I'd rather not take it to vw since they would charge just to look at it, but I think I need to. Hoping it is internal cat damage so I can get it replaced under warranty.

I was also thinking it could be coming from somewhere in the hangers or a loose heat shield.. but that doesn't really explain why the sound gets quieter as it warms up

But if you have a warrantee I'd definitely wanna take advantage of that

Car had a faulty coolant temp sensor since I got it. Was bogging today and has always had trouble on cold starts so I quit procrastinating and changed it to the green top sensor for about $10. When clearing the code I found I had an o2 sensor code. That will be my 3rd o2 sensor since I bought the car need
