One of my center vents has mysteriously broken so i can't adjust it left to right and it looks like the adjuster wheel was turned too far in one direction and now it won't move at all.
my question is does that whole piece that holds the two vents just pop out? I figured I'd ask and search here before I go breaking ****.

Noticed the seal around both rear side windows is cracking everywhere. Then I remembered it's been like that for a while. Anybody else have this happening?

When I wash my car, my rear side window seal emits this inky/oily black liquid. It just kinda seeps and drips down the outside of my car, from the water still retained in there. Should I replace the whole seal? Or has anyone else seen this?

Check engine light came on while driving on the highway. Plus she's starting to shake at 60mph. :bang head: :bang head:

Driving in heavy rain the other day and the car bucked violently when under full throttle in first and 2nd gear. Then after driving around some more I found that when I accelerated hard in first and second it would buck (no blinking cel) and after, the gas pedal would be unresponsive to being depressed. Later that night I held the pedal to the floor through the bucking and i got blinking cel and a cyl 6 misfire code that has never repeated itself since. I'm thinking I'm due for the coil pack recall?

Did you check the bulb holder tray? I had my car lose all power randomly, buck a bit and finally cut back in. Checked the tray and it was corroded as could be, replaced the tray, never had it come back.

Had an 18-wheeler blow a tire in front of me and toss shreds of rubber all over the place. One of those pieces happened to be half of the re-tread that nailed the middle grille and cracked the bottom of the bumper in half![]()

It's not the hazard switch. It is metal filings that have sheared off over time within the blinker stalk itself and are making contact sporadically. Spray some compressed air in there and if that doesn't fix it spray some electrical contact cleaner in the end of the stalk. Replacing the hazard switch doesn't do anything 99% of the time.

Noticed last fall that the high-speed radiator fans were coming on surprisingly often (while only like 50 degrees out), so I figured the low speeds were dead .. I finally had those replaced about 2 months ago.
Just got the 100,000 service done, and mechanic said that the computer was complaining that the cat wasn't running at full efficiency; however he didn't think it was worth replacing yet. (No "check engine" light - and passed IL emissions).
That's really it - the car has been staggeringly reliable, and still drives unbelievably well (aside from slotted discs and flapper mod, it's stock). I honestly can't believe it's 8 years old with 101 thousand miles on the clock. I can see myself possibly picking up a gently used 2012 Golf R in a few years (which is how I bought my current one), but for now I can't really imagine driving anything else.

Hit a dip on a spirited drive with the passenger front. I think the passenger window regulator is broken or maybe the switch? I have a nice new rattle and the window sticks/wont do anything. After a few seconds it figures it out. Anyone ever had this issue?

Mom called it a POS yesterday. She pointed out that I left wax all over the fuel filler door, among other things. It wasn't wax, it was the absence of paint on the FF door.Couldn't argue with her over what she said. Most of the issues I have with the R at this point are manufacturing flaws & longevity issues, like the interior falling apart, the blank MFD display, the paint missing from the rear hatch spoiler & FF door, etc. Turned the A/C on yesterday & foam is still flying out of the vents.
Tough to deal with on a car with 20,000 miles. The luster is gone.

Attempting to replace the bearings... and the damn hub won't come out (aka the old bearing won't separate). If anyone has the Schley ABS plate/adapter in the Indy area, you'd be my bestest friend. Went to go pull the whole damn knuckle, and the stupid strut collar is fighting me and doesn't want to come off the strut.

I have a weird... fapping... noise coming from the rear when driving. It increases in speed with the speed of the car. Started after WITW. Doesn't stop when braking... I was thinking warped rotor? I hope its not the AWD system or the axles...

Having installed auto glass years ago I know the seal is something like urethane, but that normally doesn't crack like that with age. The German stuff must not hold up as well as the American version, or somebody cost cut again.
You can try Wurth Gummi-Pflege or just generic glycerin to try & pump the seal back up.
