It's a major job that could cause other issues. It's better to treat the seals now with a conditioner before they crack.

I'm not sure how to explain what is starting to happen, but sometimes when I'm driving my 4th gear isn't catching and it seems like it's in neutral it just revs up without going any faster....

Any thoughts on what this might be?

      Thanks

Because you say that it "seems" like it's in neutral i'm guessing that it doesn't actually slip out of gear?

If this is the case then I would probably say it is the clutch slipping and coming to the end of it's lifetime.

Also, my a/c doesnt work, and its getting hot as hell outside...

Is it common for the a/c to go out in the R's? I hope it just needs a recharge...

I had to use a re-charge kit once on the R. I think it could get a little colder a little faster but works well for how little I use it. Might have to do it again this summer.

I know this is a very stupid question but on most cars they have a a/c button that indicates that then air conditioning is on but with the r all you do is keepi hitting the blue button to turn down the temperature. Correct? Like I said very stupid but I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing some random thing. Thanks.

Massive exhaust leak on the manifold, no software, no injectors, no battery charge, partly gutted from the interior, dented hood, the thingy that supports the hood is blown, dented fender, broken bumper, hasnt been washed in about 10 months, messed up fuel tank vent lines, I might still be missing stuff. Damn its going to take a while to get it up and running again.......... And I am very happy because every single thing up in that list can be upgraded for something either lighter or to make the car faster

rear haldex not working, last owners boser hood extension is cracking, power loss at 3-4k rpms, drivers seat side bolster needs to be resewn, VF's FMIC setup gets in the way of the ecstuning skidplate, rain sensor gel has bubbles(luckily it wont rain here for months now)

even with these problems, i still love my R

There's an issue with the electric flapper motors, that seal off the heater core when the A/C is turned on, across a whole range of VW models from this era. Mom sold her B5.5 Passat because the repair was half the value of the car. Find someone in your area that can do a VAG-COM scan for you, or invest in the cable.

Blue for cooler. There's a temperature readout on the LCD, & a fan speed button that works better than using the AUTO position.

Econ also turns off the AC. If you are curious how to make sure the AC is on or off

When I did my cam install I was in such a hurry to get everything back together and go for a test drive that I forgot to put the foam behind the bumper. It only bothers me because I do drive in the city and I can see someone parking by feel and the bumper not having support of the foam breaking.

thats awesome man. At least the cams are going well, and you're only worried about a minor issue!

      Where do I begin?

      • clicking noise from front brakes
      • weak pedal (suspected master cylinder)
      • worn front tyres (replacements ready)
      • tyre noise from rear
      • creaking from rear
      • rattle from koenig seat
      • more rattles
      • front bumper needs filling and respray
      • HPA Shs STILL haven't been replaced
      • engine mount knock (even though dogbone, and side ones have been replaced with supposed 034 items)

Car still looks great and feels great though

Found out one of my subframe was just "pushed" in the hole. Pulled right out. Now I'm gonna have to retap it to fit a bigger bolt.

Shortly after that, I stop at the Thai place to pick up dinner. Go to start the car, it won't turn over. Either no spark or no fuel. Not sure which. Let it sit for a minute. Tried again...still won't go. Tried again and I get a glimmer of hope. The tach moved a little this time like it was gonna start, so I hurried up and gave it some gas and boom we r started. Any ideas what the heck that could of been?

I have successfully started her 3 more times tonight and was fine all day.

Finally the newest problem of the day. When idling for a few minutes the rpms will goto 1000 when it usually sits at 800. If I drive it and then come to a stop, it'll go back to 800 but I have no idea why it's idling high sometimes. I expect that kind of behavior from my 16v scirocco...not my R!
