I know how you feel, I've lived here since '08 and never had an issue with bird poop. This year they sit on my car and poop everywhere. My DD is black w/ white pin stripes now.

I think they were able to find a tap big enough for mine. This happened about a year ago and haven't had any problems since

Nothing wrong today... but between 98K and 102K I've had to replace the rear differential, fuel pump and water pump. Luckily the differential was covered by VW, but no reason for the failure was identified by VW.

I purchased an extended 100K warranty that provided coverage for mechanical parts from VW. The cost of the repair/replace would have been $3,700. Surprisingly VW gave me no hassle on the differential replacement, but did make me pay for the $150 4 wheel alignment.

got pissed and self tapped it. Luckily using a little bit bigger thread pattern allowed some space to be able to do that. Went it like a charm and tightend up perfect. Anyone have to do the intake bushings yet? i having a feeling thats next on the list...hopefully the almost marble like sound isnt the chains although im just guessing at this point. This is my third VR and it just doesn't have that SLAP sound like the chains usually do. Will do so investigative work this weekend while i tune up my DD Scirocco.

Last season @ the track occationally while in third gear taking a left hander and letting off the gas then getting back on the gas it would pop out of gear. It hasn't happened since my last track event, but discovered today that the tranmission case is leaking it took a while to notice due to the skid plate. Heading into the shop next week to pull and repair, ouch. The gear pop probably doesn't have anything to due with it, but I thought the 02M was supposed to be very stout and plenty for a NA tuned car. I guess I'll find out next week.

Tried again...still won't go. Tried again and I get a glimmer of hope. The tach moved a little this time like it was gonna start, so I hurried up and gave it some gas and boom we r started. Any ideas what the heck that could of been?

I have successfully started her 3 more times tonight and was fine all day.

Finally the newest problem of the day. When idling for a few minutes the rpms will goto 1000 when it usually sits at 800. If I drive it and then come to a stop, it'll go back to 800 but I have no idea why it's idling high sometimes. I expect that kind of behavior from my 16v scirocco...not my R!
Sounds like you either have a bad temperature sensor...had it on my MK4 TDI and replacing the sensor fixed the problem right away. On my 1.8T passat I also had the same behavior and a throttle body alignment using VCDS sorted the problem right out. Have a look into it

That I definitely do! Already throwing the p3081 code for low engine temp. Will have to do that this weekend. Anyone got a pic of where it's at? I know it was on the front drivers side corner on my 12v but haven't dug deep enough into the 3.2 yet. I know there was a DIY in the sticky but still have yet to see a pic.

Unlocked with the remote, pulled the door handle, nothing. Second pull opened it, but it didn't feel right. Then when I went to release the hand brake something felt weird. Turns out the button is no longer in place. It should still be inside the cabin somewhere.

Discovered the sunroof switch has a new full-open position on it. At least that's a positive find.

installed a new set of 4 new brakes and pads on Wednsday & Thursday.Murphy's Law was in full effect~1 tire had a nail in it,air compressor accidentally broken,no rotating rear caliper tool--i'd never worked on that type before
3 of the 4 brakes are good w/ no issues at all .left rear caliper sticking slightly, almost like the parking brake is on . not sure if i damaged something,or if it'll just correct itself when i get it out on the street(i haven't driven the car yet)
      any thoughts?

Did you clean the caliper pins of the old dried grease, & then re-grease them?

yes.i used the lube/anti-seize grease that was supplied with the EBC pads,on the caliper carrier (where the pads contact the frame) and on the pins.
it's all good now.after i got the car down off the jacks and re-torqued the wheel bolts,etc.--i realized i hadn't 'reset' the parking brake.after a few tries pumping the brake pedal and cranking the brake lever on and off,it reset itself.it works fine now
for a minute there,i really thought i'd broken something on installation(whew!)
      thanks

When I pulled the moon roof cover forward the fabric fell off all the way to the plastic vent. It's starting to remind me of how my MKIII VR6 GTI acted just before I sold it.

Remove the dash trim above and below the radio. This will expose the top and bottom of the radio faceplate. There are 4 very small (almost eyeglasses sized) screws (2 top 2 bottom) that hold the faceplate to the radio. Remove the 4 screws and carefully pull the faceplate off. the faceplate fits very tightly on the radio so be very patient careful and cautious trying to pry it off. It will come off. The face plate does have push switch connections and electronics in it so you don't want to damage it.

Once the faceplate is off you should be able to insert a narrow screwdrivers or something similar to push the side tabs in and slide the radio out. Protect the dash trim on either side of the radio when pushing the side tabs in.

      Good luck

My recollection of the radio cage is that the 5 screws holding the whole assembly into the car are just under the glovebox surround and the drivers knee panel.

Just looking for some pics I took at the time.

The handbrake release button is no longer attached. Couldn't find it anywhere inside the interior.

Very lucky the bolt stayed with me.
That crap happened to me many times when I lowered my R32. Solution: bought a longer bolt and put two nuts on it, hasn't done that ever since.

this thread has really made me paranoid about going through with buying one in the next week with about 80k miles. the guy showed me some of the maintenance paperwork that he had on hand about replacing the rear wiper, alternator and battery, rear brakes and a couple other things and they all fall in line with a lot of the complaints in this thread.
