Lucky enough to be spending a week in Bar Harbor, Me in August and 4 days in Joshua Tree in December. Anybody ever been to either? Have any pictures? Any spots that are must visits? An info about either would be great.

Well just got back from my trip to Bar Harbor/Acadia and spent everyday in the park. It was absolutely beautiful. Anybody that has a chance to go or has been thinking about going should without hesitation. I will do my best to get some pictures up in the near future.

Maine is a beautiful state. I've been to Acadia twice so far. I would love to go back there next year.
Did you climb the Beehive? It's the trail that you need to use the iron rungs to climb because some of the sections are so steep. I'm sure you've been to the Bar Harbor lighthouse.

If you're in Cali you should visit Yosemite or Sequoia National Park if you have not already.

Yes, actually I did do Beehive. It was a fun "hiking" trail for sure. If I go back next year I'm going to do the Precipice Trail which is according to most the hardest one in the park. Can't wait to go back.

Yosemite is on the list eventually. Along with a list too long to type.

Didn't get a chance to hike the Precipice trail, it was closed due to bird activity. I believe it was the peregrine falcon, I don't remember what species of bird exactly.

Yep peregrine falcons. There was a ranger in the parking lot for that trail everyday with a telescope so people could look at the birds. Sadly from what I have heard the chicks did not survive this year so the trail was open earlier than usual.

The boat in the one picture was with a whale rescue organization. Sadly the whale was already dead so we watched them tow it away from Sand Beach which is one of the more popular tourist spots.. Was a roughly 20ft minke whale. A day later we were driving around the park loop and found where they towed it and they were in the process of a necropsy and the smell was probably the worst I have ever smelled. The were putting blubber/skin/fat into a dumpster with a wheel barrow. The next day we went on a whale watch and actually saw humpbacks and minke's doing what they do in the ocean.

Close up pics. You must have a strong nose or are used to the smell. Normally I would have be very curious as to the process considering up until that point I have never seen a whale dead or alive, but I have never smelled a decomposing animal that large and I had to keep moving.

Leaving on Tuesday for Joshua Tree. Can't wait. Never been west of Michigan or on an airplane so I am looking forward to the trip. Camera will be coming along so I will get some pics up at some point after I get back.

You will San Diego. For two days you need to maximize your trip. Seaport Village: shops and restaurants. Maritime museum, San Diego Zoo, Coronado just cross the bridge: check out the hotel, don't need to be a guest to go there, Old Town: good place to have breakfast, Mission Beach: great taco shop right at the corner across the roller coaster, La Jolla: the Beverly Hills of San Diego.

Got back to PA early this morning from CA. Wish I had more time to spend out there. Went from 75 and sunny to 35 and windy with snow flurries in about 12 hours. Looking forward to going back again in the future. Took a few pics around the area, I will get some up at some point soon.

Joshua Tree is one of my favorite desert parks. Can't wait to see your pics.

The last time I went there it was August. Really hot. Only posted a few pics from the trip.
