Very slow physical progress but quite a bit of planning has been done as far as fitting these damn wheels
The new lips will be on their way early next week. Found out that $100 in lug nuts are needed but they'll be the correct hardware so no complaints there.
Also found that the front brake rotors are the "late" model with the big centering lip/ring which happen to be too big to fit these wheels so new rotors are on their way. I feel better about that since they won't be re-drills so they won't lack in material on the back-side of the disc. Those, along with the ISP West chromoly rear hubs will officially mean that this will be "done right".
Its time for a little time off while all the parts arrive so I can hit this thing strong in March in order to button things up for show season.![]()

Quick update:
The brake swap parts have arrived or are on their way for the 5x130 swap.
I expect to have the wheel halves and all components in by next weekend. I've decided that I'm going to be going pretty low with this thing so the wheel combo is going to be 15x5 on 165/45's and 15x7 on 185/55's. The rears are going to be narrow enough to take the camber into account while still keeping a nice 3" lip (1" of the lip is taken up by the wheel face so its not a big as you think).
Ordered a couple of cans of touch up paint from http://www.automotivetouchup.com for something experimental.
The body panels and trim are ready to be put on.
It looks like the few weekend I'll be home in the next month and a half are going to be eventful.

The amount of time I'm spending removing old spray paint is amazing.

Cleaned up the dashboard a bit. I wouldn't say it looks good quite yet but at least all the extra wiring and tackiness is gone.

Thanks Kenny.
I'd like to have the car ready by Dubs on Defrost (April 7) but I don't know if that's going to happen. I have all the components and I know how to do it all but I also know that is it very rare when everything goes according to plan with these old cars.
If April 7th isn't in the cards, the next show is Spring Show N Go in Englishtown on the the 15th.
Wish me luck!

Thanks guys.
I told you, buy the supplies and I'll be there.
Thank you but in all fairness... I'm not 100% against all watercooled stuff
Looks like the wheel/tire combo is going to fit exactly as I wanted after a good fender rolling.

That's 'only' about a 2.5 gap. lol
Its definitely not making it to dubs on defrost next weekend since life didn't allow for enough garage time. I'm not sure when it will be ready enough to take out but I've decided to take my time with it and do it right.![]()

I was just looking through your thread. I just purchased a Fasty myself and am going to Dubs on Defrost. I was hoping I would get to see yours there. I got one that needs practically no work as I'm not mechanically inclined and I'm too old to start at it now.You have done wonderful work on yours. I'm sorry you won't be there.

I'll be around all season.
Congrats on your car! I used to have a square but I sold that last summer because I wanted another project and I was basically done with what I wanted to do with that one.
Here is the thread for it if you want to check it out: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3654904
Where did you get your fasty?
#95
Mine was in New Jersey. I found it on the Samba. I transferred my custom plates from my Impala to the Fasty. They say TX 2 NY because I'm from Texas and moved to New York. When I was talking to the man I purchased my Fasty from, he mentioned it was originally a Texas car. Now my plates have a double meaning.
Here's my car. First pic was from the ad. Second in my driveway.
