Thread: Doors won't unlock.

  1. 02-22-2012 01:08 AM #71
happened to me a couple of times too...
found a fix from the manual, not sure if anyone has pointed this out but it worked great

check Pg 33 on (3.1 controls and equipment booklet)
-"if you press the unlock button several times outside the effective range of the transmitter, it may no longer unlock the vehicle, and the remote key will need to be reset."

Pg 34 on (3.1 booklet) resetting the remote control key
-press the unlock button on the remote key, Within a minute, use the key to manually unlock the vehicle and switch the ignition on.

booklet 3.3 tips and advice, page 85 shows how to manually unlock the car.

-key is not to press buttons out of frequency i guess, not sure if that was the problem with yours, but it worked great on mine.

No, that's not the issue with mine. I don't even unlock it until I get to the car. I can drive somewhere and get out, press lock and it does nothing.

I think the point is if it's been in your pocket or something with the button pressed, it will have cycled out of sequence with the code for the car.

If it unlocks the car and I drive then pull the key out of the ignition and try to lock it and it does nothing then it couldn't have. It hasn't been in my pocket.

It's back! I called VW and they said to take it to the dealership. WTH is that going to do if they can't figure it out?

I think it's a security function that's working (correctly) against you. I have the same problem about once a month, and I have to use the key to unlock the door.

Basically, if you have your keys in your pocket, and the unlock button is pressed 10 times without actually opening the door, the car turns off the keyless entry system to prevent a thief from just pressing the button to look for your car. When you open the door with the physical key it restarts the system.

So maybe look for a different place to hold your keys. I'll try to find an exact reference for the above on my lunch break.

But sometimes when I unlock the car and drive then stop and try to lock it it won't lock. When I get to work I always carry my keys in my hand and hang them in my locker in the locker room. VW told me before that it's a known issue that they don't know how to fix.

Sorry, I somehow missed the last page of replies when I posted earlier. It looks like my suggestion was already covered. Good luck, it sounds pretty frustrating.
