got this car back in 06 or so, had some issues when I got it so I was fixing most of it. but for the most part 8v ran till it started to smoke and burn a lot of oil few months ago. im gonna try to update this thread as much as possible.
couple pics from the first year I had it. it looked ok, paint faded badly and I didnt even wash it much.
switched to single rounds, got rid of flares and got qt. flares.
got some decent smoked crystal tails from ebay. they are actually quite nice, a bit bright at night.
winter shots!
took a road trip to VA beach and picked up this little gem.
swapped the front brakes from stock solid 9.4" to ABA brakes.
did a rear disc swap, got most of the parts from the junk yard just painted a bit.
decided to clean up the engine and paint it a bit. gruven parts pulleys, and crack pipe. samco hoses added as well.
goofing around at friends house, found his mercedes grille while I was helping him move.
had a grill spoiler on for a while but never could get it to line up. you can see the fenders and how beat up they are. wheels are a bit wide and tore them up.
shot of 8v before I pulled it out.

yellow fogs installed, BMW projectors with drop in HID kit. looks nice but decided not to use it.
ABA serpentine swap, no AC and no PS. gruvenparts pulley used. it actually ran great and was a good mod at time.
engine pulled, it only took me two days to get to this point. was kinda suprised at how fast I can destroy something.
started cleaning a bit
paint removed
etching primer used to keep it from rusting
decided to reuse the mk2 X-member so went with this solid front mount.
got it back from body shop, painted rear DS door so it matches!
also you can see I went with G60/16v flares, skiny moulding and stock side skirts. I decided its a much better look and I like it a whole lot better since I was keeping big bumpers.
engine bay painted, nothing fancy just removed seam sealer and made it look a bit cleaner.
working on the swap finally.
engine is in, sort off.....
had to fab a bracket to mount the PS line.
most of the stuff in there and hooked up. At this point I was going to run AC!
fabbed up a small L bracket to mount the PS bottle
42nd draft oil pressure block. decided not to use their rubber hose and just put a 1/8npt fitting and have it like that. Im not running SAI pump so I have the room.
decided to run a corrado radiator with slim fans. then I found out that my samco radiator lines wont work.
thats where I am at right now. Im waiting for a oil cooler from BATinc. as they are backordered or sumtin. was gonna use a volvo one but had issues with lines and such so just decided to go with BATinc. mocal kit.

its thanks to you, once I saw your car I decided to keep it LA1Z! I was gonna change colors, but now once I see how it is with new paint I like it a lot. only engine bay is painted and that rear door just so its not missmatched. sometime in future car will be repainted completly!

Looks great! I like it better with the G60 Flares and skinny side moldings. Now just put some SEM Trim paint on 'em and your set!

ohh yeah the g60 flares have set the car just the way I want it. now that I see the pics of the car without and with it makes it so much better. im just debating on whether to delete the mouldings or not once the body work starts. A4 handles and shaving the badges are the only mod to body that I have on my mind

yeah, I didnt see the point in that hose and found a male 1/8npt adapter for like a buck or sumtin at local race shop! I actually used a older kit from 42nd draft for my 7.3L diesel truck and I used a hose. I actually lost psi at stock gauge and it kept tripping the low pressure light on from time to time. diesel idles at 20 and 40 at throttle, not sure whats the deal tho' but im gonna replace that hose with male adapter and see if that helps.
no updates as of now, got a new engine harness cause mine had VSS plug missing. got new wiper arms too as mine where rusted at places
also got some front turn signal plugs as mine where cut up and in bad shape. I spent two days wiring and soldering random stuff. still have to wire up the fans and one extra horn I added just as a goof. pics to follow tommorow!![]()

got this little gem from 42nd draft.
gotta love junkyards, always something usefull. replaced wiper arms, mine started to rust badly.

I have broken my single round grille. had it leaning on corner of the garage and I went to buy something at store, hit the remote garage door and it folded my grille in half. hahaha
thanks for the kind words everyone. I have been spending a lot of time on wiring. very time consuming and my head starts to hurt after a while. its comming along tho

Funny..I just ordered a few of these in various wiring sizes. Using the rebuild my stand alone fuse panel. Using a Bike fuse panel..
To run my headlights, stereo, EQ Crossover, fan contr, and something else (escapes me right now). Using the plug ends to build a connector for the radio to OEM harness, Connector for my fan controller, & headlights. Bought a few mini 40a & micro 30a relays.
Iwiring sh*t...sorry.

Im not in love with wiring right now, I go to bed thinking what am I gonna do tommorow and/or how to run wires and so on....
btw I got the box of those connectors from DIYautotune.com it was some $88 or so.
bike fuse box is a clever idea, I might steal that if you dont mind. where did you get that?
#21
I dream about it to except in my dream, i have pages & pages of the Bentley floating by.That's cause i read the Bentley alot when i get bored.
I got everything from Eastern Beaver. Steal away! It's heavy duty & heat resistant as it's made to sit next to a Bike engine.
The connector i got were $2.50 each & come in 2-5 wiring terminals. Complete kit ( terminals, seals and TPA)

Awesome work good inspiration. Correct me if I'm wrong but the gruven pullies are so you don't have to hammer on your frame rails

I heard conflicting answers, so I hammered it a bit anyway. it clears fine, and there is room to change the belt. already did it once to go from AC belt to non-AC belt.

Nice build so far. Watching![]()

installed 16 row oil cooler. brackets alone took me 2 hours to make but they are extremly sturdy! still have to work on hoses, had to move it down about 4 inches cause it would clear the horns. might go with 90 degree fittings instead of straight, we will see.

I wish I had some pics to post but I didnt take much lately. I tried to start the car today but all I got was click from starter and thats it. I have a short somewhere I suspect and its gonna take a bit while.
I did make a small box for relays, headlight levelers should be operational and fan control is almost wired up.

got back to the car last few days, mainly doing wiring in engine bay. took a peak inside and found this little gift Irene left me!
few hours later I was left with this.
I have been replacing some bolts with SS bolts and got rid of those stupid sheet metal screws VW liked to use! Used nutserts and SS button head bolts.
my catch can setup, this is just temporary. didnt like the way that line was run so 42dd is making me a new intake tube with fitting in backside.
![]()

I think that CC is made for an MK5...hence why there's a return. The one you need has no return. The port on the intake tube suppose to connect to the VC. If you're gonna use a catch can then you don't need the port. It won't effect it in any way the way it is.
Or you can move the CC to the PS to shorten up hose.
If you search around for CC's on VR, you'll see what i'm talking about. Most CC's used only have 1 inlet with a gas vent up top so oil comes in & the gasses vent out.
