Get a good ol' TT 260* cam, those feel wonderful in a stock ABA. They should have came stock IMO - great idle quality and the powerband doesn't fall on its face after 5k RPM's.

This is an amazing build - I wish I had ripped my GT down this much to repair rust. Instead I went the "easier" way and bought a Southern car.

One problem: I'm absolutely terrified of getting hit. We are getting snowed on right now, and all the idiots should be out soon.

I was more concerned with having good, stock parts under the hood. Ultimate reliability and efficiency were the primary concerns and goals for this car. No cam, chip, headwork, nothing. Just a boring, stock, tough-as-nails 2.0. I have my lowered, dual-carbed Beetle for when I want to tinker on something.

Did I mention fuel efficient? I've been averaging 32mpg in the city. Not gonna give that up!

A 260* cam won't effect your fuel efficiency - Trust me. TT camshafts are extremely reliable, TT is a great company. I'm telling you, a cam would really make your car feel so much better!
Heck, when I had my 135whp 276* cam N/A build, I was getting ~30MPG highway in 6th, around 25 city, depending on how easy I was on the car that fillup..

But anywho, respect for a great build.

Glad to see it finally done! I got some rust in the same areas as you do on my mk2, except my rear bumper frame support area is alot worse and so are my rear strut towers

Bariman have you been keeping your new/old Jetta clean? Zero snow and no salt use yet in VT. Has it snowed out there at all this season? It has been raining here mostly, but no salt=

Yep. I washed and waxed it on one of our last nice days a few weeks ago. We got dumped on yesterday, so it's saltapalooza from now until April. I have surface rust on the rockers where I didn't hit the welds with paint. I have 12 days off work, so that and getting some oil in the cavities are on the to-do list.

Good you are keeping it clean. We just got like a foot of snow in Southern VT. I was just listening to VPR and they said the state road crews were spreading 400 lbs of salt per mile..

So far, I haven't seen that much salt and people are driving sane. The snow tires went on, and combined with the snow and sudden cold temps, I'm down 3-4mpg. Still, 28 in town isn't so bad.

The front beam was really broken apart, so I welded it back together. This was over two years ago. I think I could do a better job if I did it again today.

I got my angle finder out and still welded it in crooked. Oh well. Sick camber, bro.

    Mad poke!
I was going through this thread again. I forgot just how much work you put in on this car. It is crazy.
The 92 Murray always makes me

What has your experience been like with the sound deadening material you used on the floors?

Unfortunately, the Murray has been eating batteries. There's a drain somewhere. The Jetta has to give it a jumpstart. Also the deck height adjustment lever literally broke off in my hand last summer, so there's a piece of that Bus sheet metal jammed into the mechanism in order to set the cut height. It leaks oil, burns oil and knocks. I have a normal pushmower to get around the house and the islands, and the tractor for the rest of the yard. I would like to get a 40" zero turn or commercial walk-behind. That would eliminate both mowers and shorten my mow time due to the lack of clutching and the tighter turn radius.

The deadening seems fine so far. I should have really driven the car without it first, but that would have added another take-apart-the-interior. It has always rumbled due to the exhaust, but neither I nor my passengers have had any drone problems on the highway.
