i figured out when i had my dash apart that there was no glovebox light,

so while at the yard pulling the 944 door handles i also grabbed the glovebox light, did some mods, and mounted it on the side in my glovebox, i think it is a small, but possibly a pretty unique touch

I have a few 1982 Rabbit brochures up for grabs.

It includes specs on the Rabbit S, colors, and options available for each model of the year.

Nice duckbill, eh? This was certainly the bunny to get just before the GTI was available.

this is the cap that came on my car
it looks stock and legit to me

i replaced it with one of those metal locking caps

      nice ride

sorry you sold all those other awesome ones...

      -edit-
      actually about the gas cap
i have mine here in my hand
      mine has words on it
"warning fuel may be under pressure spray may cause injury remove slowly"
and it does not have VW-Audi on it anywhere
thus, my suspicion is it was an aftermarket part in the late 80's early 90's because someone lost theirs
i typically set mine on the rear bumper... so not surprising someone would drive off with it still there like an idiot

i inquired about the cap a while back and learned that they are VW...just not a common one. and from what i learned is that not too many people are fond of them so they seem to be tossed for the traditional "star" caps, or the metal locking caps. i kept mine, but currently have the later cabriolet star cap with the lock under the flap.

Looking at the pics and notes. I see you used stainless steel nuts and studs. If you haven't started the car I'd recommend that you change them to just the brass nut and regular studs.
Reason is you will not be able to remove them after they've heated up.
Worked on a vanagon which the owner used ss bolts and nuts. I think only one didn't break or that I had to grind the nut off.
Thats after letting them soak in PB Blaster over night.

Thanks for that info. I haven't started the car yet, but I dont plan on keeping the motor in, I'll eventually swap it. But from what you're sayin it be a goodthing to change since I'd have to unbolt the header to pull the motor

this is the day i picked it up, shes a little more banged up as you can see. And you can see how our harsh weather here in maryland has taken a tole on her paint job over the years.

I'd like to know the specs on those diamond wheels. Are they pretty well balanced from the factory? What's the actual weight of them?

The specs are 15x8 w/ zero offset. the front is 5inch backspace and rear 4 1/2 in the rear. They are VERY WELL made. the only downfall was i waited 2 1/2 months for them. But very much worth it. i think there like 18 pounds each?(could be wrong i will weigh them tonight and give you the correct weight)

      and a few more
before the bottle caps and H&R suspension (on the jetta)

finally got my ////Alpine 3 shuffle in and brain mounted in the dash

and some rims i picked up dirt cheap (from an old school alpina bmw) 4x100, better offset and they have all 4 beauty rings.
plus my VW center caps will work nicely

      more to come
