So I have a 1999.5 mk3 vr6 that my coil pack blew out, so I replaced it and it drove for a day then went bad again. So I replaced it again and it now has done the very same thing? I really don't know what to do and it is starting to concern me a little. I could use any help. Thank you.

1999 was the half year where they built mk3 for half then changed to mk4 style. All the coil packs were brand new.

Are they OEM, or aftermarket? This isn't the normal cracking and arcing that they get with age, this is different. Got a bentley? Look and see what is driving the pack. I just replaced my coilpack a week or so ago, but it was falling apart, had cracks all over it, and most of the spark was shooting out of it, very little was making it to the plugs.

The first pack actually had a hole plug crack off so that was the reason for replacement the first time. the next 2 are all oem replacements from the Halsey Imports. So I am just confused now.

Do you have a wiring diag? i know nothing about the coil pack setup(my distributor is doing amazing btw). But check a wiring diag and see if there is a voltage regulator or resistor associated with the coil pack. Or maybe its a grounding issue?

I dont see anything burned out on my harness in any way. Its just really weird that I am burning out 2 coils on every pack and the new packs dont last more than a couple hours? The wiring harness ends look good and the coil pack has no blemishes even.

Then it is time you bust out your Bentley manual, DMM and troubleshoot.
You can look at the recent post about testing the ICM, I posted info in there.
