All hail the emblem expert!! lol good knowing where it came from

Think i should go le1y when i paint it? Dont see that color too often, which is a good thing.

Got a nice single round grille from a member on here.

Also removed 1 rail from the used roundy support, have to get the other one off and then straighten it out a little.

I managed to get a little metal piece in my eye while getting the one rail off. Had to go to the Doc and get it removed, he also used a neato little dremel tool with a brush to get the rust ring out

    Little christmas update.

I have a lot of ideas rolling through my head now. I have a round front i can put on it this spring, but the more i look at the pic threads idk if i wanna convert, thinking of going early westy, but i'm starting to like my front more and more... idk

Going to paint it either way. i work collision repair, so i can collect leftover paint and mix any color. I think a 2 tone would be cool though. thinking of getting something close to the original le1y.

Also i'm thinking gti flares or not? Early style side markers or shaved?

Waiting to get a reply from a dude on a set of used joms, and i'll be running 'flakes with 195/45s for now. Have a set of 13x5.5 factory wheels i'm working over, but dont think i'll be able to find a good looking tire.

Just bought myself a nice lincoln welder for x-mas here, so i can do a lot more stuff at home here.

Got bored yesterday. My pass. side flag mirror glass broke (ebay mirrors) so I decided to make a mirror delete "plate" out of it. Not sure if ill use it, but it got my mind off things for a bit. The base was plastic, so i plastic welded the middle closed. ended up with this:

All killer no filler!! Just plasti dipped it

    might just sell it.

Should be wetsanding/polishing my wheels, but theres a lot of winter left to do that.

Got a couple freebies from work today, an intercooler and some paint that is pretty close to the original color (LE1Y). The intercooler may be a little big for the rabbit... maybe

Got some progress done in preparation of the front swap tonight. We had to go to my dads work to toss our old olive green shower in the dumpster, so i took the core support and did some bead blasting while he threw stuff away. Just barely fit in the cabinet had to do some maneuvering to get all the edges and that. Pretty happy with it, I'll be taking it to my work and sanding the rest and priming it on days i feel like staying later. Looks killer compared to what it was. Fenders are next! Wish i could do this to the whole car

lol hellz yeah, i think i will like it way better with rounds and shiny paint! The owner of it was super nice, he brought out that canopy thing for me when it started raining

    Some updates with crappy pics...

Got the core support primed after work on friday came out pretty good. i'll be doing the fenders next. I need to get a gas tank for my new MIG so i can fill the side marker holes as well:

    Goofing off at work too

Also early this week i was going to visit my other car in storage to do a little work, but i didnt make it there... She shut down right as i got on the highway, crank but no start. Got pulled home after a state boy in an unmarked car told us what to do. He didnt really like our tow strap but let it fly. also let me go on not having my current insurance card in the car feel lucky. turned out to be a wet fuel pump relay. Dried it up and did a platic bag mod over the fusebox i'll fix the leaks when i swap fronts this spring.

    PM'd ^

Bit the bullet, figured spring time is getting closer and closer:

Waiting on front upper strut mounts from rockauto, and should have some 195/45's for my snowflakes the weekend after next.

Sooo. these should be the last pictures of it sky high

As a non-vw note, i got my Cutloose out of storage so i can tear the motor apart. Having 2 projects will be fun this summer. Hopefully i still have money for some beer!

Blasted the fenders for the round swap today. Should have them in primer after i get a regulator for the gas tank on the welder. Shaving antenna and marker lights. One of them needs a little patch at the bottom, no big deal.

WELL. Some bigger updates finally.... Color has been chosen, by chance lol. We cleaned out the supply room at work today. I work collision repair. So we had a bunch of anctient paint, sandpaper and stuff. they decided to get rid of all the gallons of stuff that has been sitting, I got 2 full gallons of Sherwin red basecoat, and 2 gallons of sherwin clear!! FREE!! I have to buy activator and reducer, but thats nothing compared to the price of 1 gallon alone of clear. Plus it goes with the theme of the build Cheap!! Heres the red:

Started messing with my fenders today. Got the lip cut and rolled over. Not sure it it will be necessary, but i figured id do it to be safe. So i wouldnt risk messing the paint up if i have to do it later. Cut patches, still have to get a gas regulator for my mig. After they are patched they will get white epoxy primer like the rest of the car.

And the stash. Got new strut mounts for the racelands. Hopefully they will be on this weekend

Also sold the roofrack. Hopefully that money will go twoards tires for the 13's ^^

Received my strut mounts WITH bearings today. She's back on the ground. Have to get a nut for one of the camber bolts. The threads stripped off the nut for some reason. But I put some miles on it tonight, getting used to the way it handles. Also learning how to swerve to miss potholes and shyt. (sorry for the crappy pictures)

^^Unsuccessful trip to Lowes, nut shopping.

    No success at autozone either.

    Bumper is just off temporarily

Did a few more things over the week and this weekend.

Got the black sticker off the front bumper. Didnt know it would come off so easily. Now i'm not sure if i want to leave it off, or paint it black again. I was thinking of getting some wide black electrical tape, and put that on. If i dont like it, its easier to remove than paint.

    test fit

My studded snows were driving me crazy, so i figured enough was enough. Just finished polishing my "new" wheels. It rides so quiet now, and handles a lot better. Did some driving around on winding back roads, and snapped some pictures. Also have to get an alignment soon. I put 100 miles on the coilovers, so i think they are pretty much settled

Going to need some spacers, but i'm not sure if i will like these better or my snowflakes. Got some 195/45's on the way. I'll be making a spacer that goes between the stub axle and the beam.

    Thanks guys!

Kinda leaning towards the black on the bumper too.

I'm a fan of the long taillights, so they are staying

Ya I'm in Erie, keeping the snowflakes. I'll let you know if I see another set for sale thought.

I make vinyl decals man. Maybe some black strips on those bumpers?

I need a good front bumper. Keep your eyes open for me.

How did you get those bumpers tucked?
