I'll keep a lookout. For the bumpers i just drilled a small hole in the shock absorbers and pushed them in. i know some bumpers have solid mounts, so it depends on what kind you have.
Haha, yeah i ended up losing one somewhere, but still rocked them![]()

Totally forgot that you were the one I sent those hubcaps to! Glad to see someone got some more use out of them.

what did you use to paint the inside metal bits? rattle can?
#77
Thanks!
Yeah it was a quickie job, satin black... Not sure what i'm going to do with the interior yet. I have a cabby dash that came with the car to replace the cracked one, but thats a lot of little stuff to replace from what ive read. It would be nice to find another parts car.

Tire plans changed, have some 155/55/14's on the way![]()
#79
I have no idea what tires i'm getting actually. Nobody has anything remotely inexpensive. Dont know if i'll run the 13's or 14's either. whatev... Running what i got for now.
FINALLY got my gas regulator and brand new leaking hose in the mailAnywho got it hooked up and went to town on the fenders, Pics rather than words.
organizational skills... naht!
Warped this one pretty good, thought i gave it enough cool time between tacks, guess not.
Pretty proud of my lower patch here. managed to use one piece.
No pictures of welds yet, lots of practicing to do. Might make myself a roof rack sooner or later.sorry for crap pics as well.
Will be priming the fenders once bodywork is done. I have to get the summer ride in action, then the front swap will be underway.

Had some 1/2" EMT laying around, figured i'd put it to good use now that my welder is going. Bent my side bars tonight. Going to lowes tomorrow to pick up another piece and hardware. plan on having less than $10 in it total.
Yes i am going to take some height off the legs. Just set them up there to see how they look. Planning to make it look like a factory unit, maybe a little taller.
#81
That's looking good man!
Remember that welding the metal conduit releases fumes that with make you pretty sick. Wear a mask or open the garage door and setup a big fan.
#82
Thanks! yeah for sure on welding it. I went outside when i tacked the "feet" on it tonight.
#83
If I were to build a rack, I think I would like mine to reach just over the front window and just over the back window.. Like literally a full roof, roof rack.
#84
This is my first project like this so i tried to keep it simple. We'll see how it goes, if i dont like the way it looks, its close enough looking to the factory style that i'm sure i wont have trouble selling it. Material is cheap enough that i could make another one no problem.
Was thinking of what kind of finish to put on it. I might just scotchbrite the whole thing and clear it at work. Should kind of give it a brushed look. I know i dont want to paint it.
#85
oh no for sure, i think what your starting with is great.
Have you though of maybe doing more square lines? the car barely has a curve on it, ya know? Just a thought to think over.
#86
I did realize that tonight when i was looking at pics of the oem rack i used to have.
Thanks for your input! I honestly havent thought these things through, i was kinda taking things as they came, but now i have a bit of a plan.![]()

Got pulled over on the way home from lowes after picking up roof rack stuff. knew i was in trouble as soon as i saw him. Ossifer ran my info, came back, and asked if i would slow down if he gave me a warning, so i said yeah. He said i was doing 50 in a 35, but my speedo said 45. Oh well lesson learned... kinda. I thought it was kinda funny that my first time being pulled over was in the slowest car i have ever owned. lolGuess i got lucky, cant remember how many times i flew down that road in my other car...
Roof rack progress:
Used it to get more tubing
I think its turning out pretty good. Still need to make mounts that fit under the driprail and add 2 more bars up high to keep anything up there from sliding off the back or front. I like how it looks just scuffed up like that. hopefully clearcoat will stick to it with no problems.

How does a rotary work? This one's easy: the magic triangle spins in the peanut and then apex seals come out.
#89
I was just looking at the car today (Find myself doing this alot), running ideas through my head about wheels, tires and what not, figured i'd check if the axle was rubbing (wasnt thinking that it did) To my surprise, it was, very slightly.
After I got home from helping fix my buddies power steering on his mkiv, I went to town on the 'ole pinch weld. Just cut it down, cut a little strip of 1/8" steel and welded over the seam. If I need to actually notch it later, I will, no big deal.
Mki to the rescue!

Got my fenders finished, Priming them by the end of the week. After they are primed, i'll have eerything all set for the round swap except headlights. I also got my roof rack mounts finished. Debating painting it gloss black....

Put some nice fusor seam sealer on the inside of the fenders, around the welds, and sprayed them after work. Filler work wasn't as good as i thought, but at least i can say I did it!
The Dynamic Duo!
Camille the oldsmobile is waiting for her motor to be buttoned up. After thats burning tire again, the rabbit gets the round treatment!![]()

Wanna build one for me?

Came across a rare beast at the junkyard! A 4wd mki Scirocco! Last thing I was expecting to see there, since Ive been at this specific one, tons of times. He had mostly old stuff, which was great when i got my Cutlass. I guess i remember the car/truck, but never put 2&2 together. He has crushed absolutely everything else, this is one of the few cars left. Got a few parts off it. A chrome drivers mirror, and a screw-in style gas cap.The rest of it is beat, obviously. Pics for proof
Saw a carb'd 1.7L Block in the motor piles in my temp sender searches.
Also did a little exploring, snapped a few pics for fun.
Cant wait to change the front, the beat up lower area there is starting to bug me.

jeebus! monster truck scirocco........................

sent you a pm joefightskittens.
I'll have to go see whats left on the 'rocco. If its even still there.
Trying to focus on getting her ready for the great lakes g2g, gotta give the whole car the once-over. Hopefully i'll get my new roof rack painted this week. I'll have to see what i can do with the wheels too. I was disappointed that they dont shine more. Got some tips i have to try yet.
My goal is to look like this by the end of the summer. Minus the wheels.

Rack is finished! Just picked up a little cargo net for it too. Chrome mirror on also.
Took the 13's off to get them balanced. I took the weights off when i polished them, hoping to get the weights put on the inside this time. Having them balanced will make the ride to the great lakes g2g a little smoother too. Also I was never happy with the shine i got out of them, so a guy at work gave me some tips i'm gonna try.
Kinda diggin' the snowflakes, but still think i'm gonna get rid of them. Looking for Sebrings still.

Welp, Spent last week getting it ready for the great lakes g2g this weekend. Got all my shyt together, car ready to go. Met up with the canadian crew, and didnt even get 3 exits down the freeway and broke down. Battery light was on, so assuming my alternator is bad and i was running off my battery, that only lasted so long obviously... Was right near a buddies house thankfully, so he towed me home, and then another good friend picked me and all my junk up, and we went to the hotel saturday night. Special thanks to him since he drove from detriot, to Pa to pick me up, and then back into ohio for the show! partied a little saturday night, and went to the show today. Had a good time!
The short time with everyone while mine was running.
Saw this in person finally, and a sport-ruck that was there
Burgundy mkiv that saved the weekend, and the locals.
Picked these up saturday night, Prime 250's 14x6 et 44Not sure what i'm doing with them yet.
Getting an alternator tomorrow, got the battery on the charger all night tonight. hopefully she'l be back on the road tomorrow. screwed up the core support towing it. More incentive to swap fronts.![]()

I used to have the 15" prime wheels, buts since the bolts are fake it is really hard to polish the lip. I have some snowflakes that im polishing and was gonna order the 155 55 14 also. I wish I could have seen your falkes and tires, but you say you are going a different route.
#105
Yeah, hopefully i can get a big polishing wheel around all those bolts... I have access to a bead blasting cabinet. Bead should be way easier on the aluminum and get that clear coat off easier than stripping them or sand blasting, then easy polish.. not sure on color yet. maybe sticking with gold. should set it off when i have these on after its painted RED.
