Just wanted to say that today was an awesome event. Cool people, cool cars, and the weather held up.

Big thumbs up to all the staff and judges for putting on a great event.

Was a good time, always nice to see everyone. Glad the weather held, venue was nice.

The raffle was a huge pile of fail though. It denigrated into a "whom ever is standing closest to the dj" contest.

    AGREED.
i have to make the obligitory comment about the judging too. it sucked
im not one to complain b/c i dont really care but, i was the only one in my class with nice(rare multipiece) wheels, alot of interior work, and the only one with a trunk set-up and i didnt place.(and no the rest of the car was not a mess)
......bitch!ing over.......i'll be back next yr, great show

I mean, I don't think there is one show that does not have complaints about the judging. Really, that's why the shows that do "people's choice" are my favorite. I show just for the preferred parking, nothing more, I realize the judges personal preference outshines everything else. Also, this is not the Pebble Beach Concour d'Elegance, checking gas caps, and wheel backs for dirt is ridiculous. Overall package < cleanliness. It really came down to a detailing contest, the vast majority of the show cars are daily drivers anyway.

I will say, I have never once seen a show where so many staff members are just standing a round shooting the ****. The event staff was not responsible for food, or event maintenance, so there is really no excuse for the limited amount of judges. Really, it looked like the event staff was having more fun than some of the patrons.

Lastly, to continually preach over the PA that the show is "for the people" but to charge for entry at a commercially sponsored event is a contradiction. There are many shows throughout the year, some I would argue as much more desirable, do not charge entry fees. Yes the venue is expensive, but between vendor sponsors, show registration and other profits/ donations, I don't think there would be a problem making ends meet.

Thank you to everyone who came out. We also had a very good time even with all of the work that is involved.

We strive to try to make it a fun and fair show for both attendees and show car owners.

Really wanted to thank the troopers out there who didn't care what the weather forecast was and still came out! You guys got the major win cause the storms completely missed the venue.

A quick note about the judging comments. As someone has already mentioned, there is not one show that goes by that someone doesn't have a comment about judging. As for only having a small amount of judges (15), trust me it is not even easy to get people to commit to being a judge based on what people post after the fact. We had people from other car clubs including Coolwater's president and other members to help out. We completely re-vamped the judging criteria and ensured that we had a thorough meeting to review everything before going out to judge. We know that there is always room for improvement and will strive to make them.

Lastly as for how we staff, about 1/3 of the "staff" are security and are not VW owners nor enthusiasts. another 3rd of the staff is our club members who are running everything behind the scenes. The last 3rd are involved in judging and the back end of that part of the show. As we have done in past years and will continue to do, we will gladly invite others to be guest judges at the event.

We also like People's Choice events, but from our experience, the show car owners do not. One thing that happens at these shows is the guy who has the most friends ends up the winner. That is just not fair either.

We do hope that everyone did had a good time while at the event!

That's why I didn't show, I asked what type of judging it was and it seemed more "white glove" than anything which would only have stressed me out being situated on a grassy field where it rained the past two years!

I could have parked on the showfield to be closer and just not had my car judged, but the show seemed pricey enough just to get in (and I don't have $1643475623 in mods on my car so I can still complain about entry fees ). shrug

There's a lot that could be said, but People's Choice shows are garbage IMO.

Comes down to a popularity contest.

A car on bags and RS that is fully closed (hard parked, windows up, hood not popped, etc) should NEVER beat a car that is clean and fully open.

    / rant

Could not agree more. The people that put in the effort to clean and prep their vehicle deserve to win. That being said, having a stock car beat a package that someone spent time and thought putting together just over some dirt on a gas cap is ridiculous. Really, that's not just a critique of this show, but of all VW shows in general. The lines are blurring between a car show and a detailing contest. The girl in the mk5 class next to me spent the vast majority of the day cleaning, her car was immaculately clean, her car was well modified. She put in the most effort, and most certainly deserved the win, I hope she did.

All in all, did I have a good time, yes, will I return, probably. My reasoning for posting is not to ridicule the show, but possibly offer my point of view and some constructive criticism.
