I got ya. Still got alot left... I was happy where I went, I was also a judge for watercooled cars. I was even able to drive the mk1 there and just about rip the exhaust off.

I love Shawnee, and the location. I probably wouldn't show there again unless they do club parking or it's a booth.

    Hahaha, you're the man.

Judging is a lot of fun.

I hear you on that. I was in the Wunderwagens booth and Geoff rode up with me so we just hung out there all day.

And to everyone whining about the mk1 judging. Knowing all 3 judges personally, and knowing one of them had the mk2 with the cage in the jpc fab booth, and another one who worked for paul at fast road when fast road was in its prime, and the other "jdm" guy. They went a lot off cleanliness and had a clearly defined checklist. Having held a show this year, and not having heard much bitching about our judging. I can say i expected some, and i expect some every show. They were told what class to judge, they didnt pick. If you didnt win and you felt you should have... oh well. Keep it to yourself, and go harder next year.

It was a great show, just kinda upset that a Stock TDI passat on H&R springs with a vinyl wrap placed over a CCR with a lot of work done to it.

I'm sure a lot of work goes in to vinyl wrapping a car. He probably got points for it. I thought it was real paint until I inspected it closer. It looked awesome.

My bone stock MKVI JSW took 2nd place. I cleaned the heck out of it and placed. Probably straight 5's across the board which can put you above people that have mods, but that aren't tastefully done. So, say there are DVD headrests, but the wires aren't tucked under the carpet and are visible and some are spliced and hanging loose. You lose points for that. It's not all about your modifications, it's about how well they're done and how well everything flows with the car.

Couldn't have said it better. I was one of the judges. You can see what I posted about my experience in the other recent post.

    Congrats on winning.

I understand that how well the modifications are done plays a part in it, but if you looked over the CCR, you would see that badly done modification wasn't an issue.

I don't want to imply that people didn't put work into their cars when I don't know all the details for sure.

I was not a CC or Passat judge for that matter. I wasn't referring to the other post either. I was just commenting on something she said about modifications done nicely and I agreed. That's all.

You don't need to bring your thread over here. We understand your frustration, but it wasn't even your car. It was your friends car. I can't speak for the other judges.

I commented and said "If anyone would like to see what I said about my experience with how much fun I had, they can check the other threads in the DOTD forum." ..

    No big deal. Just relax..

I had posted in this first, then started the other thread so I wasn't stealing this one.

and I'm not upset that I lost, it's not even my car I'm talking about.

And if I had seen a stock car win at waterfest, I probably would have complained about it then too.

Thanks to Bill and the Blitzkrieg Tuners group for a great time!

I appreciate the ability to park with who you arrive with and not having to spend an entire show sitting behind my own car by myself on the far opposite end of the show-field (I can do that [and do] in the garage).

Once we moved along the fence to be able to set up the canopy (those of you who know me, know that I'm often working during shows), we were good to go - and after we started setting up, others who drove in later with canopies were parked accordingly to accommodate (yes, I'm an early bird - sorry). But, like I said, in a New Beetle, I am admittedly spoiled by the usual lack of company and therefore the gain of space...

Special thanks to the judges (often a thankless task) for 1st in class New Beetle (and thanks to the other new beetle owners for coming out - I appreciate competition and camaraderie) and Best Theme!

Well said...sounds like words of a person who's previously worked a show (like myself)!

Sometimes, it's just playing the odds as there may be more/less cars in one particular class that may make the difference in placing/winning and not placing/winning.

Quote Originally Posted by Hammersmith View Post

No scoring system is going to be perfect, from a promoters perspective you can either have a people's choice show where there is really is no traditional judging, you have a criteria like Waterfest where you have classes segregated into the level of modifications that are done to the car, or you try something in the middle that tries to accomodate those that want to show their daily drivers as well as the trailer queens. This isn't a knock on what DOTD was trying to do here it's just tough to come up with criteria and classes that keep everyone happy.

Take NJVWR32 (Pat's) car, he's probably got one of the nicest R32's that I've ever seen but from the outside it looks like a silver R with BBS wheels and a set of coils, pop the hood and see the stage 4+ charger and things change so how do you class a car like that? By waterfest standards he's Super Mod because of the blower on what was an NA motor from the factory. Unfortunately for Pat that throws him into a class that includes other R's with body kits, custom paint, and thousands in audio and electronics. So now when I come by and judge Pat's car in Super Mod I can max him out on points for his engine mods but I cannot give him anything really for the other categories. He may have the nicest car in the class in the judges opinion but you have to give points where points are due for the other people that have built a show car specifically for that class.

So again as a promoter, what do you do, create a Stock, Mod 1, Mod 2, and Super Mod sub classes for each car class and have 3-5 cars per class? The casual show people are going to be happy because just about everybody is going to win something but the hardcore show people are going to complain that there's no competition at the show. Not to mention the cost of getting trophies made up for all those different classes. Most of which will probably end up in the garbage year after year when no one shows up for the Eos Super Mod class...

I spoke with the judges while they were judging my car, and while i didn't win anything, i did get some great pointers as to exactly what they were looking for and how everything was scored. they even used a few different cars as examples for certain area.

judging isn't an easy thing to do because someone will always think their car is better than someone else's. so i have to give props to all the judges.

good job on the show, guys. i will definitely come back again next year. hopefully i'll be able to step my game up and compete a little better, but if not, it's still a great location with great cars and great people. VIP parking all the way.
