Send that clutch to my rebuild.![]()
#1
Well I have been collecting parts and doing lots of research for a while now. I have been getting a little impatient so I decided to get busy. This will be my build thread from here on out. Enjoy!
I bought this Corrado in April of 2010. I was looking for an SLC that was in good shape inside and out. Something I could go big power and worry about the interior and exterior later. I found that in this car. This car was very well taken care of. When I bought the car it came with Stainless TT cat back, TT chip, weitec cup kit, and all the exterior mods in the pic below. Since I have taken ownership, I installed 10lb flywheel, stage 2 kevlar disc clutch, euro 2.9 intake manifold, koni coilovers, and BFI poly mounts.
My Corrado
Precision 6262 .58 a/r T4
Tial 38mm Wastegate
ATP Clone Manifold
Mig Fab Custom Short Runner Intake
Tial 50mm BOV
Schimmel 8.5:1 head spacer
AWIC and New chains and guides
3" Downpipe and exhaust all v-band connections
Spec Stage 3 Puck Clutch
Lugtronic Standalone should be shipped this week. Kevin Black is an awesome guy to deal with. Very helpful and responsive.

Nice start to a thread.. just a random question, what is this breather cap for? I am confused as to what it is doing near the Alternator? Is it hooked into the SAI?

#6
Not sure. It was on the car when I bought it. It goes to a pipe that goes to all that air pump garbage

removed more stuff from the bay today. Did some cleaning and there is still a long way to go. Droping the subframe tomorrow, and possibly going to tackle that mess of wires.

Does that SRI fit?.. it looks like it will be super tight to the core support. I know the c2 SRI won't fit Corrado's. I know you said it was custom made, was it for the Corrado? You might want to check it with rad support on before you get too deep into the build. I just say this because the plenums look kind of long. If it already fits, money in the bank, polish it up!

dropped the subframe today and did some cleaning. What a greasy mess. I will be seperating the control arms to sand everything down and coat with por 15.

Well I got carried away with some sanding on the control arms. But well worth the outcome. One control arm took a leisure paced 2 hours. I would have preferred to get everything sandblasted but elbow grease is free.
So I got a question for you guys making big power. What are you guys doing with mount cups on the sub frame? I want to beef them up so nothing lets loose or breaks. I am thinking a fat weld around the outside of the cup and more welding on the inside of the cup to the sub frame. Any other suggestions? or would this be sufficient? or is this over kill? I plan on being in the 500hp range +/-

If you are going to repaint anyway, this is not a bad idea. When I mod the SF for 6spd, I always reinforce them with weld. Weld a bead around the outside and inside as you describe. Just don't weld up the lower drain channel. Then prep bare metal accordingly with something self etching, etc.
#25
Also, while you have the A Arms out, you should change the mounts/bushings to the solid R32 type before you paint.

I removed the dash, fuse panel and most of the wiring coming thru the firewall. That abs wiring blows. I'm glad I am going non abs so I don't have to put that bs back in.

Looks like a sweet job on the rear bumper. What happened with the skirts? Are you going to blend those too? I'm a big fan of the Zender kit done right (blended in to body). Good looking C!![]()

Whoever the PO had do the body work didnt do a vary good job installing the kit. The rear bumper was done well but the skirts have a few runs. The rear bumper and side skirts are molded. I understand the front was a one time before a minor fender bender required a new front bumper. The previous wietec cup kit was older and allowed the tires to rub bad on the front of the rear arch. This rubbing started to seperate the side skirts. I am still debating on weather or not to keep the kit. I have since purchased an slc front bumper. I had the stock hood, and rear bumper. Another thing that bothers me about the kit being molded is that I cant take off the fenders or the rear bumper. The Zender kit is the only kit I would consider for a Corrado but in the end its still fiberglass and that is what leaves me undecided. I love the stock look with 90mm lip on the front and some staggerd 16's with big lips.

When extending the wires for a wire tuck... Would it create too much resistance to cut, splice, and solder? Just curious how you others have done this. I am aware i can repin connectors but i would prefer not to if I dont have to.

As long as you make a good/correct solder joint there is no problem at all and resistance will not change. Make a lineman's splice, heat it up with a lighter and let the hot wire suck the solder in, don't melt the solder onto the wire..like 99% of people.![]()

Lose the blended body kit. I think it looks like dookie. I like where your head is at with this project man. Keep it up!
