Anybody else doing this? Should be a good time...I'm engorged.
I'm going to enter this next year...this year doesn't work for me but it looks pretty cool.
I don't think I could ever do one of these. Mainly because there's one HUGE 10K here, 10,000+ people. Different start / finish locations, so it can be a hassle getting there. Gotta park downtown, towards the finish, then bus you out to the Start of the race. Gotta show up real early to get to the start on time, stand around, etc.
EVERY YEAR, a few weeks before the race, I start dreaming that I was running late. I miss the last bus, somehow get a ride to the start, and everyone's gone. I get to the start, and people start yelling at me to go, that everyone's already gone, and they wave me through. As I'm running, I'm seeing the race directors all over, they're having me run through buildings, up and down stairs, through alleys, etc., trying to catch up with the other runners.
Ugh. This would just be like that nightmare coming true!
For me they are just another feel good parade. America sees distance running as the pinnacle of fitness. It's not. The Tough Mudder claims its the hardest event on the planet, yet they are extremely loose about timing, and there is no accountability regarding actually doing the obstacles.
It's called marketing, and honestly- who cares? It's pretty gay how this is a forum for H+F, yet people can't wait to bag on anything that doesn't fall into their narrow vision of H+F. Guess what, you probably aren't as in shape, strong, fast, or healthy as you think you are. So quit getting down on what other people enjoy.
Isn't it better to hear about someone wanting to try something fitness related? If it takes being chased by a zombie () or dealing with obstacles to get an ass in gear, then F it.
I think things like this and tough mudder look fun as hell.
I wouldn't do them, simply because I absolutely hate running, and don't have the cardiovascular strength to actually enjoy them.
But, if you don't think they look like a good time, you're either lying, or really uptight.
Why do these events (mudrunner, warrior dash, etc) need to be so damn expensive?
I may as well start an event. Lets all run up the mountains near my house, eat a granola bar then run back down. The only trick is to not get caught by the rattlesnakes or black widows. We have some shear drop offs too, about 60-100 feet. Its free, and you have a scare factor.
