we will NEVER play this game
Nope. This game is a fabled unicorn. Speculation that is coming with the lead producer leaving is that it won't hit until 2013. Steve was really adamant about getting this out ASAP but that douche jay Wilson has too much power and is delaying it saying its "yet to be ready".
Don't forget Torchlight 2... The first one was meh. But now that they have had some success, and made some cash, it appears they are putting a lot more time and money into TL2. Everything I've seen of it so far looks much improved.
...and lets not forget it's made by two of the guys who founded Blizzard North.
I just got in the beta. For now, I'm completely underwhelmed, but I only played for 30 minutes before I had to go to work. I find it doesn't look that nice, and it doesn't have that blizzard feel to it. Again, I only played a little bit, so tonight we'll see.
I already preordered it a long time ago, and I'm gonna play it anyways, I just hope it'll be a lot more polished before release.

I believe at some point Blizzard made an art direction change similar to how Starcraft 2 got the story line and video cutscene additions.
I find Torchlight more fun right now because D3's skills and combat development tree is too convoluted.
D3 is quite buggy right now, a lot of connection issues. How do they expect people who travel a lot to be able to play the game offline.
The funny thing is that what you see there was created by Blizzard North, which we all know was canned for it's "poor performance" in the development of Diablo 3. The co-founders of Blizz North went on to form Runic Games, and make torchlight, where they also decided to go with an art style instead of that classic Diablo look.
You guys are still getting ahead of yourselves though. I'll save my D3 judgement for when I get my hands on the release.
As far as Torchlight goes, I thought the first one was pretty weak. But it was a success, and it made them some cash, and it appears they are putting a lot more into T2... So I'm excited to play it as well.
So now, word is that it'll be out this Spring...
Activision CEO Bobby Kotick has announced that Diablo III will launch in the second quarter of 2012. Speaking to the Guardian ahead of an investor call to discuss the company's 2011 earnings, he confirmed that the action RPG favourite will be coming to PCs sometime between March and June.

awesome vid! Thanks for that, still looking forward to this game, it will be great! Has a very familiar Diablo look to it from the original. I always thought the graphics on Diablo 2 looked washed and grainy IMO.

how many people are going to do that digital pre-order so they can play the moment the servers go up on May 15th? i thought about doing it, but my only concern (which i havent found an answer to in their FAQ yet) is what if i ever need to reinstall the game....where do i get the install files from or cd keys or whatever it may be? are they burnable to a dvd-r and will they work again or is it a 1 time install kind of deal?
if anyone stumbles across this answer and could post it up, i'd appreciate it. i'd contact battle.net's support directly but i'm sure theyre getting one hell of a flood of emails right now so i'd never hear back.
It's all from battle.net. If you don't have an account, they make you sign up for one and from there, you can manage downloading the game. There is no more CD key - technically you can dl and install wherever you want to 1000 times but you can only play if you have an account on battle.net I believe. You need an individual account tied to a purchase to play since it's online only.
I bought and installed last night!
I'm guessing they will do it all by email and send you a serial and link for the download. Then anytime you need to reinstall you just download the iso or whatever and register it with the same serial. So whatever email address you use would be the one that's registered for that serial and the game.
I plan on picking up a hard copy myself. Kinda want the box art after all these years.
Edit: ok that answers that.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just not their own facts.
I pre-ordered it with a years subscription to WoW for the wife Awwww yeahhh!!!
I gotta start doing some reading! I don't know a thing about D3, LOVE Diablo II but I don't think I ever played it to the point of doing BAAL runs and the like... Just casually with friends up to level 60-70... But that was in ~2002

Any one of those games I can just click and download, onto any computer as long as I have internet access.
The older, Classic, games I had bought on CD originally when they came out. I was able to register them with the battle.net account so they are available there.
The newer games (SC2, D3 and WoW) allow you to start playing once you get to a certain point in the in the download and it will continue to download in the background.
Only thing that sucks about this is that its releasing at the beginning of summer. I would have loved to play this game all winter. But once that summer sun hits the great PNW, I'm outside every weekend hiking/fishing/camping. C'est la vie.
Preordered it with a year long subscription to wow. Figured if I'm gonna try MoP might as well get a copy of D3 for free. Not nearly as excited about it as I was when I started this thread since we've learned along the way that jay Wilson hates pvpers and has basically given the middle finger to my kind. No Pvp at release? I can understand to get the game out earlier but I highly doubt they are going to polish that as much as they could. Oh well. Still gonna play just might take a backseat to MoP since blizz is aiming that more towards the vanilla days of Pvp and alliance vs horde. :sigh:
i hear ya, SOAR. that's about when the boat will be coming out of storage and getting dropped in the lake...so it's not the best timing in that regard, but once it gets dark out and i'm done fishing for the day then i can play a bunch of D3
i'm a little worried the game wont have the same affect as D2 did, granted my mindset on video games has changed a bit since the days of when i was really into D2 and would spend hours/days/weeks doing nothing but baal runs or joining pvp games to p*ss everyone off, but we'll see.
