Possible leaked release date. January 17th. The date was enclosed in an email that was hacked from an employees email to another employee. Had all of the blizzcon announcements and possible dates. The email was verified as two months prior to blizzcon so there may be some validity to the date. Just a speculation at this point though.

they also just sent out another 200 cd keys last night, anyone get lucky? the d2:lod laddder just got reset last night as well, i've been contemplating playing just for 1 last "hoorah" of d2 before d3 releases, but it'll be a pain in the arse to find the time since skyrim and cod:mw3 come out in 2 weeks.

I'm concerned with the availability of the runes you will need to boost skills required to survive in later Hell or inferno mode. I played d2 for almost a decade religiously and never found some of the higher end items. The trading aspect was fun but not nearly as rewarding as finding them in the world. Now blizzard has incorporated its own in house auction for real money, I fear this will lead to abuse and instagate class warfare and promote elitism that will deflate the games overall fun experience. Also the quality of your character can no longer be judged on how well you built it and how well you executed the biuld strategy, now it seems the quality of your character will directly reflect the items you have, now it seems its all about luck and how deep you're willing to reach in your pocket.

Don't want to burst your bubble, but thats exactly how d2 was. total class based system, too poor to afford the best gear? That's fine you're just going to suck. AH is only optional for money, I think it's going to be just fine. People that are willing to pay more money in the AH are 99% of the time going to be casual players that dont want to be at the bottom end of the spectrum since they don't have as much time as everyone else. As for the Runes in the game, only level 7 runes can drop in inferno and it seems to sound like those will be the really hard ones to find. But since they are not bound to you, you're going to see a lot of trading them away when people don't get the rune they want.

just for giggles I looked up D2's system requirements: 233 MHz Pentium or better, 32 MB RAM, 650 MB drive space, 4X CD-ROM drive, DirectX compatible video card

due to the type of game that it is, i think many computers that might even be 5 years old or so can get away with running the game. they did release a giant list of supported graphics cards, and mine falls into the 'minimum' category. really dont feel like droppin cash on new hardware

Im glad you said something. My i5 HP has an integrated graphics card and was concerned with the the performance. Sadly, I think I'm gonna have to get new hardware to play this game.

What specs are gaming desktop, I may be in the market.

It's not at all, my laptop just has a business GPU instead of a gaming GPU. It can play MW3 on lowest settings pretty well actually but the effects and shaders in D3 are a bit too much for it.

We probably won't end beta until shortly before release, and traditionally we've tried to announce release dates about two months before release. I couldn't speculate how invites might ramp up or down when the beta finally comes to a close, it definitely is not coming to a close yet though.

The feb 1st is just a placeholder. It's a common practice for retail stores. I remember when I worked at best buy years ago we did the same thing with the new halo game. I'd be surprised if we see d3 in the first quarter. I'd guess mid 2nd quarter is when we will be seeing it on shelves.

i went for drinks with one of my friends last fall, and he had spent the previous day in their office discussing a console port. (his studio was just about to release a console hack & slash game) So not sure if his studio is doing it, consulting, or if Blizzard was just picking his brain. regardless, great to see it finally happening.

They released some info as to why it's being pushed back ever farther today. They took out the mystic so no more enchanting items. They took out the cauldron and the cube so no more selling and destroying items on the go. They added some stuff to the stats on characters. They also took away scrolls of identify. Now you are able to identify stuff after you complete a certain quest. Thing is though it takes a while for you to identify stuff, so instead of instantly knowing what something is, it's slowly revealed... Some pretty lame changes that they could've done without IMO except for the statistics changes. I'm guessing december of this year now .

They took out the cauldron and cube but they now have a Town Portal ability added to the bar permanently.

They didn't add stats, they removed some.

The mystic might be added back at a later date.

No more identify scrolls? Umm, that's awesome. Who wants to carry those stupid things around?
