doesn't QBNR32 run something like that? rolled fenders though.

IIRC he runs 245/40/17s but they are Toyo R888 which are probably quite a bit wider in the tread width than almost everything else, or more like a 255 or more.

I'm running 245/40/17 Michelin SuperSports on 17x8 et35. I could probably fit a 255/40 with a 5mm spacer. I have around -2 front camber so the clearance is tighter with the suspension than the fender.

It'll fit, but its not recommended, the sidewall will bubble and slow response time between input and direction change. Its also outside of the manufacturer recs.

My new track setup. 17x9's with 245 Hoosier R6's. This is 97Msedan's old setup.

My daily setup. 17x7.5's with 235 Hankook RS3's.

What tire profile would be used to keep as close to the factory specification and not throw off the speed much?

I hope that pricing was for a set lol....I saw that there were a few gb's for the 17x9's in a 5x100, just wish it was a normally stocked size. The standard 225/40R18 is just over 25" in diameter...a 235/45R17 is only about .25" larger....a 245/45R17 is about .5" larger

    12. 10-08-2011 11:50 AM #87
      That's a set.

I currently run 18x8.5" BBS RG-R (ET35mm) wrapped in 225/40R18 Michelin Pilot Exalto's (have ran with Pilot Sport's and PS2's in the past) with KW Street Comfort coilovers. I have a strut clearance of around 8mm (maybe 10mm) from tire to strut.

If only Enkei can keep the specs the same and just chop .5" from the backspacing.

Would love to go back to a nice 17" setup with higher sidewall.

      Imola Yellow GTi

255/40/17 - 0.2% slower - More flush fit, but not meaty (like OEM)

      235/45/17 - 1.2% faster than OEM

      245/45/17 - 2.3% faster, more meaty
(When speedometer reads 60mph, actual speed will be 61.4mph: 2.3% faster)

i just removed a set of 17x7.5 superleggeras that were wrapped with Hankook RS3's 225/45/17...

that was a nice setup..very light, no worries on potholes (granted roads are pretty good here..)

wouldnt have changed it if my buddy didnt work for CCW..

    15. 10-08-2011 02:19 PM #90
oh..and if not mistaken they were +45 offset..I think.......

ran for awhile with a set of 12.5mm spacers in the rear which worked out very nicely

I thought they were 17x8, was so wanting them, minus the STi color

When speedometer reads 60mph, actual speed will be 59.7mph: 0.5% slower.

      Edit:

For more meat, you could have went 235/45/17, which is what I have on an 8" wide wheel,
but I am not sure if I would have done it on a 7.5" wheel.

When speedometer reads 60mph, actual speed will be 60.7mph: 1.2% faster.

Great thread. I've posted something similar in the mkV forum, but adding the question about performance brakes that would fit under 17" wheels.

so thinking i wanna go 17inch route.. what should i look for 17x8 or 17x7.5 wheels? i daily drive my car this isnt a track setup all though thats what im leaning towards as how i want me car to be?

from what i can gather i should get 17x8 and run a 235/45/17 tire? would that be the ideal daily driver setup? i also want to still be low.. idk current set up im on 19 235/35/19 with 10mm spacers front and 20mm rear.. i like the ride height and everything i just think i wanna go with 17 inch wheel make it look clean. anyway info would be great thank you!

pics of current setup here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthrea...-pics-for-2012!

bluerabbit0886 has this exact setup on his R32. PM him for his impressions. From my experiences, both driving and riding along, the tires are phenomenal. Very sticky, even in relatively cold weather (20-40 degrees Fahrenheit). Not very noisy, although I've heard that the Star Specs tend to get pretty loud towards the end of their life. Good thing the R32 has a loud exhaust.

I went with 23/45/17 on 17x8 and it's comfy, more wheel protection, and you go a lil faster than before.

      But?
