    fortunately you have a TDI to at least salvage some mileage out of that....Id just rent kayaks at that point.

    Yeah, the best I could get was 34mpg with the boat up like that. Normally if I am carrying 2 kayaks I lay them flat side by side. The Stand Up Paddle board is just too wide to do that though.

    Which rack/base are you using on the factory bars?
    2013 JSW TDI, Nav, Kessy - White, Pano roof, Canvas Back dog/cargo liner
    13% tint, 30% on Pano, Fog lights, rear spoiler, mud guards, (to be installed).

    It is the Thule 450 Crossroads with 58" bars.
