So it occurred to me today while at work planning my future installs, it occurred to me.....the 3.6L puts out like 280 and then to 305 chipped. A KO4 is good for like 323 to crank. Why wouldn't the tiptronic be able to handle K04??? This makes me more comfy with my decision. So to everyone else thinkin of making the leap.......Do it!!!

It should handle it just fine. Unitronic tunes it more or less to not fry the auto tranny 335hp is enough and very accurate numbers.

Still in the shop. I'm traveling and dropped it off to have it put in before I left. I'll pick it up when I get back.

If it makes it to H20i I'll let you know how it was on the way to Ocean City... If I melt the tranny on the way, I'll call you and you can pick me up and show me why Uni is the right choice

I have the K04 for 15.000km (~9.400 miles) and still no problems! And it is not a new car! (total 139.000km = ~86.900 miles).

I'm all for you guys mixing the k04 and tip trans but the vr6 trans and the one put beside the 2.0t are not the same. One specifically says it can handle up to 335lbsft tq, and one says 229lbsft tq. So take precaution and also know that the jetta 2.5 has the same tip as the 2.0t and the punkass 2.5 has been known to break them.

you do realize that the 4 cyl trans is different than the VR one??? you're response is a rather blanket statement with nothing of substance to back it up.

229lb-ft for the 2.0T??? 207 is the standard torque! You mean standard cars are using the Tip close to its limits? If it is like that, everyone with stage 1 (303 lb-ft) and higher should have blown their trany!

I personally don't know if the 2.0T trany is the same with the one in the VR6, but this is that I know:

I was driving with APR stage 2+ (325 lb-ft) for more than 45.000 miles with no problems, and I upgraded my setup to APR K04 for 320 lb-ft. This is telling me that I am not going to have any problems with K04...

The above should not be taken for granded, just my simple thoughts...

I've had the K04 in for a couple of weeks. I also had a APR Stage 2+ and then went K04. I was slightly worried about the Tranny.

Red - I went APR across the board, so I can't comment on other products, but I am very happy with APR and the performance.

Going from Stage 2+ to K04 is like night and day. There is no question you've got something under the hood that you didn't before. Even the idle is more powerful...

The mid and high speed power bands are just stupid. I've driven quite a few cars, and I won't say the K04 Tip in a B6 is the fastest thing on the planet, but it's definately so far beyond stock B6 that you're not even driving the same car anymore.

As Nikos said, these are our experiences, and it could be driving style. Others have had problems, but I've experienced none thus far.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

    Bump for an older thread...

Is it stupid to put a k04 kit on and not an exhaust? This is our family truckster and DD, I don't want to make it louder by putting an exhaust on it. I realize it might cause some restriction and a drop in power but I think I could make that sacrifice.

With just a downpipe the exhaust sound does not change other than a bit louder at start up until it warms up. Cat back does nothing for performance, so you are not sacrificing anything.

On the other hand, if you do ever want to hear what a full exhaust sounds like just hit me up.

What he ^ said. Go for a downpipe. It will give you power and you will keep the stock sound. This is what I am running in my K04 setup.

Yea, a downpipe will give power. I have the APR turbo back exhaust (downpipe + catback exhaust). It sounds awesome with K04.
