Episode out of left field...
It did explain a potential tie-in of the observers though.

Weird sharp U-turn. Not digging the nazi-inspired oppressive authorities.. so over used. Observer didn't seem to be evil before? I know Peter had a vision of the future where they were fighting, I guess that would be around 2015.. and we never found out who they were fighting. I guess they were fighting observers. Cool to see the "evil" Walter though. Which is this, the 5th or 6th Walter personalities?![]()

This really caught me off guard... It's quite the departure.
Does anyone know what's going on with the next season? Has this been cancelled yet?

A hundred dollars on your hair, fifty on your nails, fifty on make-up, two hundred dollars for an outfit. You ladies spend four hundred dollars to bring home a thug that ain't worth ten cents!

Yeah that's what I meant, the 70s Walter that didn't like where he was headed, that thought he was becoming too "evil", in a sense. We haven't really seen too many of this personality so far, aside from the flash backs maybe. This one seems a bit different than Walternate, who still seems a bit human. This new Walter seems like he has plans up his sleeves.

I understand it's only for 13 episodes. Should be enough to properly conclude the series.

WTH - I thought the future ep would be a two-parter? This one came across as a filler ep, too - lots of exposition, little action.

Yep. Was that not clear?
The ep did nothing to advance the storyline, and re-stated a bunch of stuff they've already shown us. Both the Walters love Peter? Walternate's not so bad? They've given us examples of this already. And if you didn't know Lincoln was going to stay on the other side with Fauxlivia, that makes 2 people - you and Stevie Wonder.
With any luck, this ep was the writers setting up the board for the season's endgame, ham-handed as it may have been.

It did advance the storyline by bringing closure to a bunch of plot lines. How is that filler? Would you have rather them left it unresolved? And no Isht we knew lee would stay with olivia. They finally closed that annoying plot line as well. Not filler at all.
Most of the show has been filler. Not that episode.

Great episode! The best ever?
It would have made for a great series ender, but I'm glad we got the finale season coming up. We now know what Bell "did to Olivia", we know why the observers are in control in the future (to prevent that situation from happening again), we know how Fringe looks like the other universe as well.
Great episode. Truly satisfied.

Excellent episode. Definitely could have wrapped it up right there, but I'm glad there will be a 5th season to wrap up the loose ends with the observers and the possible "observergeddon".

I thought that Nimoy was done with acting, or said something to that effect. Glad to see him again, though the Evil Bell departure didn't seem like a natural role for him.

Yeah, it was pretty clear that it was written and filmed to be a series ender, and that the very final scene would not have been included if they hadn't been renewed. I wonder if they would have aired the future episode if they hadn't been renewed either, because that would have opened up quite the aggravating can of worms.

I just finished watching the season on my DVR in a marathon session. Just a couple of comments/questions...
1. When Peter activated the machine in the original timeline, he caught a brief glimpse of the future where there was apparently a war going on. I had assumed that he saw the war between universes but I think based on what we know now, that was the war between "loyalists" and "natives".
2. What was the significance of Walter breaking off William Bell's hand in the "Fight The Future" episode? And what was Walter's reference "after all he did to Olivia"? Is he still referring to the end of season 4 when Walter had to "kill" Olivia or something else? Something for me to ponder this off season I guess. If September told Olivia she had to die in all possible futures, presumably that means she has to die... so her recovery is only temporary.
3. Also, I think this is a continuity error/unplanned plot diversion on the writers' part. If September can travel in the 4th dimension independent of fixed timeline, we should have seen September with a gunshot wound to the chest throughout the series, rather than just this season. But yet, earlier in the season, they showed us September's wardrobe when Peter went to his apartment. He had plenty of clothes. So why would he not bother to change his shirt before he warns Olivia about her fate, weeks "before" he was shot?
4. I'm hoping for an episode in the next season from September's POV. How he gets his assignments and how he manages to skip to different timelines and historical events.
