I thought is was interesting that Faux Bishop was not behind the shape shifters and is in fear of another group threatening both sides of the universe.

Based on the science and time travel, there can be no logical conclusion. But I agree and I do hope there is an intelligent end and its not like Lost.

I was thinking more along the lines of the fact that there are only 12 or so episodes left this season... There is a good chance that the show won't continue.

I laughed at that scene, especially when they pointed to the navigation and said about having plenty of range. LOL.

The show has always been really bad on blatant product placement though, be it cars or cell phones.

I think the show has run its course, and the long hiatus has probably lost many of the fans.

I missed the last episode because I didn't even realize it was on. Can't keep track of it popping up once every several weeks and then disappearing again.

I think both events were effectively erased when Peter ceased to exist. Or at least that was my interpretation of things.

Makes sense... So, if Peter can make it back to his timeline all of those things should be a reality again?

I like what theyre doing with this season...exploring the different timeline. Though, Im worried this show is on its last legs. Sad, because its pretty much the only pure scifi show on my DVR

From the looks of it, Peter is going to stay put in the timeline he's in.

Oh BTW, can someone explain the difference between alternate dimensions and timeline as it pertains in Fringe?

OK, I know the concept of alternate universe. But how exactly does a different timeline work into the plot? To me, it looks like Peter is currently in an another alternate universe where Peter originally died when he was a kid.

My wife and I were discussing this after we watched the most recent ep last night. The two universes exist as pairs along multiple timelines. While most metaphysical theories suggest that there are infinite timelines based on random choices made every split second throughout the universe(s), Peter's existence seems to be more influential than most. That their very existence is predicated on his existence. Or something like that...

It helps if you went to college, smoked pot with a girl, and read anything by Richard Bach.

JJ has always done hamfisted product placement. I remember seeing him do it on Alias. There was a scene (supposedly somewhere in Europe) when Jennifer Garner and Michael Vartan jumped into a Focus SVT and peeled away. There was a "rock & roll push" when the camera basically pumped the SVT badge to the rhythm of the music. I was --> .

I remember that scene - I think they were supposed to be in Austria, and it stuck out because it was so blatant. Also remember that on Alias all the codenames/call-signs were Ford products. Sidney Bristow was "Mountaineer."

Yep .... I missed the episode a couple weeks back and I've sort of lost interest now. Watched the last episode and get the shapeshifter thing, but why is the German dude back and the whole alternate timeline thing has me all confused.

It was revealed two episodes back that the German guy is behind the shape shifters, not Walternate, as the characters in our universe originally thought.

The whole "universe reboot" plot really took the steam out of this series. You spend 3 years getting attached to the characters and they yank the rug out from under you.

Anyway, I read somewhere on the internets that Fox loses money on this show, so this may be the end. It's too bad, I really liked it. The timeslot changes and intermittent and seemingly random months-long breaks between episodes really haven't helped. Every time the series gets rolling, it stops.

Exactly.. I had the same thought. I liked the show when there were fringe events every week blah blah, now it's all a jumbled mess with too many worlds, people bouncing between them.. it's hard enough to follow when you've been watching from the first episode, but there's no way a new viewer could come along and watch the show.. absolutely nothing would make any sense. I think it's jumped the shark, and this will be the last season.

Agreed. They could very well have continued with the two distinct universes without the reboot. The only thing it did is give us a plot nobody really cares about or commits to (Peter getting back home) and "conveniently" made people forget things that they can revisit again (observers or the evil dude that shifts universes).

This has been the biggest problem with it, if Fox had not kept changing the time, then stopping it for months, and sometimes putting on re-runs in the middle of a season, then it would actually be much easier to follow on.

I have never been able to understand why they will show 4 or so episodes, then go a few weeks with none, then show a few re-runs, then none again, then carry on with the current season.

All shows do this. The networks tend to not show new episodes during periods when they figure people aren't watching in big numbers, so you get new eps when the season begins thru Novermber sweeps, a break for the holidays, reruns to catch you back up and then a run of new eps in time for February sweeps. Then another small break or burst of reruns, and the build-up towards the season finale during May sweeps.

What's weird is that Fringe doesn't seem to be liked much by Fox, and typically when a show is unloved or doing poorly, all the above is ignored. They don't care about its numbers so they just burn the eps of straight through and it's over, like Chuck, which has already had its finale. Grimm and One Upon a Time are being treated the same way. Yet eps of Fringe are being dribbled out like grains of gold dust. It's like Fox didn't order the back nine and yet want the typical front 13 eps to last until May.

Yeah, the blatant placement of that thing is getting old.

And now we know the watchers have names!

Not just old, but they're forcing bad shots, the setup for the leaf pulling away from the charging station last episode was just horrible. It was as if one of the camera crew put their camera down and forgot to turn it off, didn't even get a clean shot of the Nissan or Leaf badge.

HOLY HELL!!! That woman's teeth was disturbing

I don't think the theme for this episode was not alternate universe but rather a merging of time lines instead.

Yeppers. The episode was co-written by J.R. Orci who is one of the creators of the series.

Awesome episode The twist at the end and a few lines during the episode were great additions to the new alternate timeline story line.

Did anyone else feel like they were watching the Xfiles pretty much until the half way point? Not hating as I love both shows to death. This episode just seemed to have a huge Xfiles feel to it.
