In the front the S1 coilover for the MK2, MK3 VW/Audi Group platform features 400 lb/inch
spring rate matched to a twin tube low pressure gas damper mounted in a
heavy gold zinc plated threaded coilover housing that provides not only
great handling, but also exceptional corrosion resistance.

The rear features a 285 lb/inch coil spring & helper spring matched with a
specially tuned sport damper mounted inside the rear version of the
high quality heavy gold zinc plated threaded coilover housing.

Hello Everyone,

First thanks for all the interest in the SOLO WERKS Coilover kits!

We have been getting quite a few questions about the kits, so we decided to do our own install to get the data to answer the questions that were being put out there.

We were able to secure a MK4 GTI from vortex member Darktuner who was able to drop off his GTI on late Thursday afternoon and leave it with us until Sunday.

We have been in the shop since then working to get every bit of info we could get for everyone who is interested.

We finished the install and all the data late last night, and I am compiling the data today as well as finished install pics and hope to have everything posted by Monday at the latest.

Darktuner will be picking the car up on Sunday and has a few hundred miles of driving to do that day, so he should have a pretty detailed review from an owners perspective.

We will be doing an install in the coming weeks on a MK3/MK3 platform as well and we will be posting our review in the same fashion.

Hello Everyone,

We have finished our MK4 install and testing, and we will have a MK2/MK3 coming in next week for the same treatment.

I wanted to post this as info/cross reference for the time being

After working with the engineers, and getting the max lowering sorted out here is what we have.

The measurements below are taken between the center of the wheel and the fender as in the diagram below:

• The max lowering shown in the tables above is achieved at the lowest position of the threaded adjustment on both front and rear axles.
  
• Helper Springs have been retained and should not be removed! See notes below on the Helper Springs.
  
• These measurements allow for the shock absorbers both front and rear to have the minimum amount of travel required by the engineers to do their job before full bump stop engagement.
  
• You must trim 50% off of the included Front bump stops to achieve this lowering & travel range.
  
• Removal of the OEM sway bar is necessary to achieve the max lowering due to contact issues with the drive shaft. Aftermarket units are available that will clear this issue.
  
• Depending on your wheel and tire combination, you may need spacers to clear the coilover perch/springs. SOLO WERKS recommends at least 5mm clearance in this case.
  
• At the lowest level, you may need to modify one or more of your body panels to allow for sufficient travel of the wheel inside the fenders. Please ensure that you have clearance from all obstacles through the complete travel of the wheels.

NOTES:

• The Helper springs are there to keep tension on the main spring during full extension of the shock absorber.
• The main spring is not long enough on its own to keep the shock at full extension.
• Removal of the helpers will result in the main spring being able to travel away from its upper and lower spring perches, and will result in damage to your suspension as well as other components.
• DO NOT REMOVE THEM!!!

We have been receiving quite a few PM's and emails about the SOLO WERKS S1's, and I wanted to summarize them for everyone who is watching this thread or interested in the coilovers.

First, to clarify the measurements in the chart.

When we state at max lowering, this means at the end of the threads on each corner.

To illustrate this point, here is what the front and rears would look like:




The Golf that we did the installation on is not at full lowering for the kit, it has been raised up to suit the owner and the car.

On our test Golf, the Front measurement is set at 12.5" front, and 12.5" rear using the measurement style of the center of wheel to fender.

The Fender to ground on this vehicle in its current setup is 24 1/4" Front and 24 1/8" rear. At this setting, the vehicle is visually level to the naked eye.

At this level the passenger side drive shaft WILL RUB on the OEM Sway bar setup under hard left turns or large bumps, but is fine under normal driving conditions.

The owner has removed the front inner fender wells previous to the installation.

A 5mm spacer was used with this wheel/tire combination to clear the coilovers.
