I wanted to give my sideview mirror turn signal lights that smoked look to better blend with the black trim underneath. It only took around 15 minutes, here is how I did it:
Smoked vinyl film. I bought mine here: http://www.metrorestyling.com/Colore.../lensfilm2.htm choose smoke(dark)
Heat gun or hair dryer
sharp X-acto knife
Ok, Let's get started.
Make sure everything is nice and clean:
Cut a piece of the smoked vinyl about 3 inches wider and taller than the marker light peel back the backing tape. I did this dry, but you can use some water from a spray bottle to wet the backing making it easier to work out any bubbles. Lay down the vinyl starting from the middle of the marker light and working your way to the edges.
Now use a combination of the heat gun and squeegee to heat the vinyl and work the bubbles out and work the vinyl into the crack between the light and the mirror housing.
Work your way around the maker light until you have a smooth fit all the way around.
Next take your X-acto knife and start trimming the excess vinyl away from the marker light. Use the crack between the light and mirror housing as your guide.
After you have cut all the way around, carefully begin to peel off the excess vinyl.
Now stand back and check out the new look!
Repeat on the other side of the vehicle.
Not bad for less than $10 and 15 minutes work.
