You got lowballed then. You might be happy with it, but you could have gotten a few grand more a year if you'd asked. I always ask for 5% more than they offer straight off. And for my current job, they gave it to me without quibble. Substantial little bonus.

You guys are funny, you don't even know the details. I do like everyone always "looking out" for each other in OT. And by that I mean saying "You got screwed", "Of course your GF is cheating on you", "It's probably cancer".

How dare ANYONE be happy in the OT.

      fixed that.

We're all here to be the a-holes we'd like to be all the time in real life. Don't forget it.

If you mean with the old employer, the numbers aren't in favor of long term success when an employee accepts a counter offer from their current employer.

Maybe you guys aren't reading this right.

I was working freelance and part-time bartending. I found a full time job that paid better than the former two combined. It wasn't something that I needed to hash out. As for the amount I am receiving for the new job. It is more than I originally thought I would be making from this company.

Lowballed is a bit of a grey area. I feel negotiating is important, but didn't with my current job (well, I kind of set the expectations during the interview process)

I was grossly underpaid at my last job. I told them my actual salary during the interview process, but also told them I knew my value and that I was well under market value. They made an offer that was over 30% higher than my old salary (base), better bonus potential, and it was also higher than the range they gave me during the first two interviews. I wasn't about to blow it or start off on the wrong foot over a few %.

Could I have squeezed out an extra few grand? Maybe. But I was offered more than what I thought market value was going into it. I felt I came out thousands ahead.

      edit: oh, and congrats OP.

Analysts from work say our bonus is going to be about 20% of base salary this year. I am planning on putting it toward the rest of my student loans, and paying off the rest of my wifes student loans with other saved monies. Between us, that will be $55K in student loans paid off in under 4 years.

After that, I will reward myself with buying some toys: Air compressor, Air tools, Welding machine!

The possibilities are endless depending on how obscure into simpsons nerd-dom you want to go.

      Springfield U Alumni shirts.
T shirts for all the different bars Moe has changed the tavern into.
The Ayatollah Assahola shirt Homer doesn't want to sell at the neighborhood garage sale.

I'm guessing they want more recent and/or relevant stuff though. I could see the limited market appeal of the above.

That's sort of where my boss and I are at. How obscure do we get? I mean...I used to sit there and record Simpson's episodes onto VHS, when the commercials came on I'd stop recording, rewind to the last frame, then once the show came back on I'd resume recording.

I know the show extremely well, but there are plenty of things that would fly right past the casual watcher's head.

There are tons of people out there that did the same thing (me, for one) - I think the obscure stuff would probably sell even better...we're the ones that are old enough to afford all the random crap your company could put out for sale

Our doorbell rings the theme song from the Simpsons.

Pin Pals is not so obscure that no one would know what you were talking about. I think the John Waters toy store episode was one of the best and he wore Homer's discarded bowling shirt.

After playing guitar for almost ten years, (completely self taught, can't read a single note) I've finally ventured to a studio to write and record my first, completely original song. After posting it online on a popular music website, I was hit up by a couple talent scouts.

It's exciting because, the industry is completely over-saturated, so it's impossible to be noticed. Having any type of recognition is huge to me.

I'm more or less stoked on it because I proved to myself that, if I set my mind to anything, I can do it.

I know the show extremely well, but there are plenty of things that would fly right past the casual watcher's head.

      1994 Ford Temp GL

So I drive a 1994 Ford Tempo that has 73k miles on it (had 36k when I got it) Car is in perfect shape and runs great. Got it for 600 bucks after my Great Aunt died. So the other day a guy hit me in a parking lot. His fault. Messed up my driver's side door a little, but didn't keep it from closing or anything.

No police report was filed (learned a great lesson there!) and Dude's story was different than mine. So the two insurances are battling it out. With that said, State Farm got an estimate and determined the repairs exceeded 75% of the value of the car. So in Tennessee, they have to total it. They would give me 2300 for it. However, I have $1000 collision, so that number was then 1300. "DAMN" I thought, that's pretty crappy.

Then I'm told I can get a salvage title for it for 200. THEN I'm told that the person I was talking to found out in the state of TN, if the car is over 10 years, I don't have to do a salvage title and since the car is in my name, no title change has to happen at all. I just give State Farm 200 bucks.

Add to that, after the insurance companies battle it out and an independent intermediary determines the fault, if the fault is Dude's and not mine, then I will get that $1000 back.

So, I'm going to get a minimum of $1080 for the "totaling" of my car, BUT, I'm going to retain the car without have to do a salvaged title, PLUS, if Dude is wrong, I'll get that $1000 back.

So, I'm getting between ~1100 and 2100 bucks plus I can still sell my car for hopefully $1000.

tl;dr version - Guy hit my crappy car, I end up getting between 1100 and 2100 in cash plus the cash I get when I keep it. Win.
