      New work computer:

Mac Pro with 2 x 2.4 GHz quad core Xeon Westmere and 8 GB RAM

      The performance difference is astounding.

Not my success, but my son Brendan's...his basketball team (11 y/o) won their league championship in a tough field. His team was just 5-5 in the regular season, but went 3-0 in the playoffs. The team they beat in the finals was 9-1 in the reg season.

The bad news is that my son was actually sick and couldn't play in the semi-final and championship games, which were on the same day.

I went to the games to video them, and his teammates told me they were going to "win it for Brendan".

      How awesome is that?

The motor swap that I have been doing at the tech school I go to started up and didn't seem horribly out of time. That damn thing has been driving me off the wall for a while.

And when I got home I decided to get the Monte Carlo's motor swap going finally, after 4 years of procrastinating. Threw on some wheels and decided f*** it, I'll see if it will start. After a bit of gas down the carb and some nudging on by my dad and I, we got it running, though I know now for sure that the valves are royally f***ed, push rods are tight and it spits out gas out of the top of the carb!

      Soon....

Decided to keep the E39, so I fixed all the things that I had been deferring, and a few things that came up when it was in the shop.

New Valley Pan gasket, thermostat, drive belts, cam sensors, front bushings, key, front windshield trim, oil change, tranny flush, diff flush, radiator, and a replacement headlight (as I couldn't buff the drivers side back to new) for only $2,500! Woot. Nice to know people in the industry, as that has a retail cost of >$6k.

Now I have a shiny, fully repaired E39 that looks great with only 103k on the clock, and I think I'm going to keep it another 10 years.

The old 229 V6. It's going to be replaced by the usual 350.

Not to beleaguer the point since you are swapping the motor but.... I'd say if you have not been fiddling with adjusting the valves, you have a stuck lifter. If you have been messing with the rockers... you might have done it wrong. I've never seen a valve burnt so bad or a seat so far gone that it was forcing air back up the intake and blowing gas out of the carb. I have seen stuck lifters or valve set on Chevy motors incorrectly ( as if they were Buick or Olds motors) do that several times. Does it run at all? If so, back the rockers off until they click, then take them 1/2 turn or so back tight. If it is not running period, I'd say the valves are set wrong. Not that it matters.... rip 'er out and put the SBC in.

Side note.... I saw a 4 door 81' Malibu for sale yesterday in butter yellow.... must own. My V8 Volvo plans fell a part, so I still have a 400hp 350 to re-home one day....

My buddy has a '79 4-door that his parents bought new, it's that spectucular baby blue metallic, I think blue interior. V6 auto. I keep bugging him to put one of those $1500 Goodwrench crate motors in it Do you know the back windows don't go down in them? I thought that was nutty, for a car with full vinyl interior and meager a/c.

Where is the window going to go? With the cut out for the wheel arch, there is no room. It might go down 2 inches at most if it has the mechanism. The little vent window helps. We had 3-4 of them when I was younger. Dad ordered a **** tonne of them for fleet use for his company. We had '78 2 door 4 speed one at first, but mom didn't want to shift.... so it went back after 6 months and we had boring cop spec white ones for a few years.

Good point... all I know is my co-worker and my husband have funny stories about them. My in-laws took my husband and SIL across country in a 'bu when they were kids- like thru Death Valley and stuff- in one with no A/C; my co-worker has stories about being literally stuck to the back seat of his as a kid because his parents refused to turn the A/C up high enough for he and his sisters to get any ventilation

I'm so close to this achievement, got about 1/8" to go. I'm so glad I'm not the only one stoked for it. Also almost finished a Bic pen without losing it. The ink dipped below the point where you can see it a month or 2 ago.

I've alluded to it in other threads, but I finally got the all clear from the background check, drug test, etc etc that I'm officially going to start my new role as a Senior Project Accountant with a local division of Honeywell that makes oil/natural gas refinery equipment. I start the week after next, because I've got a nice little FL vacation next week. More money, hopefully (please God) less BS, and at minimum, a company that's been around the block before and knows what it is doing.

And best of all, my boss just came over to my desk, saw all my crap packed up, and his eyes got real big. Nice.

I got pulled over this morning and the cop knocked the speeding ticket down from almost 20 over to 5 over.

      No points.

I had no idea the speed limit on the road was only 25.
Of course it's company policy never to, imply ownership in the event of a dildo... always use the indefinite article a dildo, never your dildo.
