i just spent the past 8 weeks in school, for my 3rd year of automotive service technician.
i made $27.60/hour before i went to school, and i was supposed to make $32/unit when i came back.

my boss instead pays my technician wages. $38.50/unit flat rate.
i take jobs from the tire/oil change pile, and upsell whatever i can find. i work 6 days a week, every other weekend off. if i hit over 100 hours, i get $40.50/unit. i cant complain with that!

i made 7.4 hours my first day, and 6.5 yesterday.

Tendered my resignation yesterday, with the customary two week notice.

Was asked to leave two hours later.

Will be paid out the full two weeks.

Not uncommon depending on the industry and size of the firm. They come at you with a "thanks for your service, no offense - but GTFO". Seem pretty common amongst my friends who work with "sensitive" IT, i.e. they have sec. clearances. They whore themselves out to the highest bidder and switch jobs a lot (by my standards) but when they inform their employer that they are leaving they don't even get back to their desk.

Success: More work done before 10AM on a Saturday than I was able to get done in the second half of the week. Amazing what a quiet office and phone can do for you.

Basically what Tornado said. I work in sales and accepted an offer from a competitor.

Over the two weeks I would do more harm than good, even if theoretically. I wouldn't be looking to close any deals, and if I spent too much time talking to my now-ex-coworkers, it could further diminish morale.

It's pretty standard procedure, and I didn't take it personally.

New job starts in two weeks. This will be the best vacation I've had in terms of total relaxation.

Just smashed a credit exam to complete my undergrad. 30 minutes, 3 credits, $90, 73/80 with a week's worth of studying. Hit the bricks, corncob college.

After switching from running to cycling over a year ago because of chronic shin splints I unintentionally ran 8 miles on Sunday with no problems

Went on a long ride, got a flat, realized I only had a patch an forgot to bring an extra tube/tire. Got within 8-9 miles of my car and the tube blew out again. I walked a while and decided instead of calling someone I'd try to jog/run back to my car since I was annoyed about not getting a full ride in. Had a backpack on and rolled my bike along... couldn't believe I made it one piece and made it home to see the end of the Flyers game.

    Great success

Witnessed a hit and run, immediately made the decision to chase them down. Succeeded in obtaining plate #'s and turned around. Just as I was giving the lady their plates, the guys pull up. They must have realized I followed them. Boy were they giving me some dirty looks.

    Success!

My wife passed her boards almost 2 years after she graduated (repository therapy) with out hardly studying for them. Great success for her you say? As soon as she gets a job it takes a huge load of pressure off of me. I might be able to get my masters. I might be able to get another job. I don't want to get cocky, but there is a potential I might not have to be the primary bread winner. Literally 6 years of hassle hinged on this morning. Sweetass.

Sounds great, but what is "repository therapy" if I may ask? Sounds... dirty.

I have a set of Blows Quiet comfort2s that I got as a hand me down. Worked well about a year ago and then the sound became distorted and distant.

Found out that the headphones have a replaceable cable that pulls right out of the right headphone. Plugged it back in, now they work.

    **** yeah.

New apartment means my commute, which has been an hour each way, pretty much all highway, is now a short walk to the train station followed by a 17 minute ride. Much more importantly, though, I'm not even moved in entirely yet, but I feel more at home than I have since I was like 8 years old.

    I love success.

    OT.

If the company doesn't do overtime, then off topic.

I finished my seminar paper. I don't think it's very good, but damn it, it's 8000 words worth of work that I've actually put some thought into over the past three months.

Starting a new job Wednesday. It pays 25 cents an hour less than what I'm making now, but it's 2 miles from my house and I don't have to be on call 24/7.

Tried my hand at some paint correction / scratch repair on my wife's Taurus wagon. Last fall one of my kids scratched the hell out of the passenger side of the car with his bicycle (the metal handle of the handlebar was exposed....it was like he keyed the car )

Anywhoo...I picked up a bunch of detailing supplies - new Griot's DA polisher, some cutting and polishing pads, Optimum Compound and Polish, and some 2000 grit paper if I needed to wet sand (I did):

Passenger door before: (pay no attention to my uncharacteristically messy garage)

    ...and after:

Took a couple of hours, but happy with the results.
