Thread: FS: 82 quantum coupe

  1. 10-06-2011 06:52 PM #1
vw only imported the quantum coupe in 82 and 83, and less then a 1000 of them. this ones got just over 200k on it, runs and drives. in fact, the last time i drove it it was 500 or so miles back from ocean city md. it does need some work though. it has a cold start issue, it wont idle up. i'm not a CIS guru, so i never figured out what the problem was, i just feathered the gas to keep it running till it warmed up. the 1.7lt is nutless, but with the 5 speed i could get it up to 85-90, it just didnt get there fast. i was planning on swapping in a 16v but lost interest. the exhaust is bandaids on top of bandaids. havent done anything about it with intentions of fabbing complete setup when i went 16v.

its been lowered, custom knuckles, bilstein strut inserts up front, and an ebay sleeve kit. it rides pretty nice aside from dragging one pretty much everything. its kinda thrown together though, the sleeve kit was for a nissan sentra. my plans were to build a better kit through ground control. the rears are mk5 rear struts with a custom "hat" to mount the spring. its the typical older vw style rear strut setup, i was gonna get a mk1 or mk2 rear coil set up for it. the fronts hubs have been drilled to 4x108 along side the 4x100 holes. i also have a set of 15mm adapters for the rear. the rear drums have a thin washer under the spindle to add slight camber.

the interior is in very good shape. it had trophy recaro's in it, i put the oem seats back in. the only issue i have with the interior is the dash. its cracked up pretty good from the sun.

this is a 30 yearold car, its got patina. its also got little things here and there that come with a 30 yearold car. the heater switch died on me on the way home from OC, one of the window handles broke while i was there, ect. on the other hand, this is an arizona car. i have a stack of records that date back to 83. it spent most of its life in AZ, spend a little time in the PNW, then was driven to maine in 04-05 by its original owner, Gale. she didnt drive it much, it sat, she died, now its mine. with that being said, its got a few spots of minor surface rust, no rot. the paint is faded pretty bad, all the way to the primer in spots. the hood is dented from people sitting on it. i know that johnbarleycorn has a hood in this color, you could probably buy it off him. i'm sure if forgetting stuff i wanted to say about this car, both good and bad. feel free to ask any questions you have.

price is $2000 as it sits. pick up is in rochester nh. THIS CAR DOESNT COME WITH A TITLE. NH does not issue titles for cars older then 15 years old, so my registration is the title and all states are supposed to honor that.

    as it sits right now

I'm using an Audi v8 passenger side header and aeb passat oil filter housing, which you just showed. and a custom short runner intake.

I'd really be interested in that intake, but I'm running an aba block. so
I suspect any intake that comes over the top of the engine will make the entire setup to tall for the hood.
