I recently asked the sales person I deal with for my commission number for the VW I have paid a deposit on. His response was that his Manager didn't want to give it to me as the Comm # is "Confidential" and isn't given out to customers.

Does this sound like a legit response?

The salesguy also says I'll get a VIN anyday. I don't want to seem aggressive or anything with respect to these details. Am I irritated over nothing or should I bug my dealer and ask to speak to the manager directly? So far I've been asking for these details via email with the sale guy.

It's not confidential, but so long as the dealer is willing to provide you w/ all the info I don't see a problem. Just ask him if he can't give you the commission # to give you the Prod Date/Delivery Date.

I still am, everyone's orders are "Production Stock" or "Factory Order Bank". I can't see dates unless it's my order.

I called my local dealer today to ask about the R. They guy told me they had taken 30 preorders ready with $1,000 deposit and that he couldn't guarantee what color, package or number of doors I would get. I think I'm going to call around a little more

I was given a commission number, but they refuse to give me dates, saying it's too much work. I've been told it'll arrive "sometime in February." My commission number (#M86996) is significantly higher than some seen here, so I wonder if there are some shenanigans going on.

From what I understand, its just a portal that is logged into, commission number entered and an output given. Copy/paste into an email and done and done. I could be wrong.

Seems to me that the commission number isn't technically confidential. That being said, it may be specific dealership policy to keep the information confidential to prevent customers becoming upset by delays or missed dates, etc.

Maybe I just give the benefit of the doubt too quickly.

I'll give them the benefit of the doubt through the end of the year, at which point I'll become a little more demanding of clear information. The timing of the car's arrival is of critical concern to me since I have a lease expiring in January (which will extended, month to month) and a rug rat arriving in April. Daddy needs four doors!

Where I am located there is only one VW dealer for the entire country. Against my feelings of irritation with the dealer I'll listen to you guys and not escalate the matter.

I don't get why dealers aren't honest. Stalling makes things worse than genuine bad news. Things like this make me not want to carry my car back to them for service interval checks incase they try more underhand stuff.
