i ordered from a dealer near King of Prussia and my exact ETA says week of May 7, so our cars have to be on the same boat. I was told this in early April when the boat was loaded with my car.
My dealer says they expect the car to be here at the end of this month, which is about a week away. Really hope its true!

I wonder if I'm the only one nerdy enough here to get this joke. Pretty funny haha.

Anyone able to find if there's a Red 4 door laying around anywhere in the Midwest or if any are scheduled to arrive?
Been in touch with some salespeople, they claim every R coming in is a sold order which I don't exactly believe, seeing as there are indeed a few Rs on the lots around here.
Maybe the angle is if they convince me to order one, they can also try to ask for more money, or something?
I'm in the Twin Cities.

50 weeks after I put in my deposit, my Rising Blue Golf R finally arrived yesterday. It's fabulous, worth the wait, interior is awesome and once the turbo kicks in, your ass gets pushed into the seats pretty good. M43019 is officially loose on the streets of Denver! Thanks to all who have kept me posted and made my wait a little more tolerable. And if you're still waiting, you won't be disappointed!
Lastly, there was another rising blue 4DR at Emich VW in Denver sitting there. It belonged to someone who pulled their deposit. I don't know how long it will last, but it was there yesterday!

So, my dealer called today to tell me the car is scheduled to be "in port" on 24 May. I am in Denver, so I am assuming it will come into Houston. What information do I need to get from him in order to track the boat?
#1871
was told by my dealer yesterday that my car was on a boat that left 4/27, due to arrive in San Diego 5/22. Anyone know what boat this might be, and if the eta is about right? Anyone else's car possibly on this boat?
TIA,
Joe

Hang in there, it's totally worth the wait. I'm starting to figure out first gear now that I've had a couple of weeks on it. I love it. It's so much quieter than my 1998 VR6, and the sound when you punch it is satisfying. So far, my only complaints are very minor (center armrest is a little far back, and haven't figured out how to kill the motor and not kill the stereo with kessy). Such a dork, sometimes I sit in the car in the garage. Hey it's been 14 years since I had a new car... Here's a photo of the teenager with the newborn:

it gets annoying because if you are streaming music over bluetooth, and you turn off the car, the phone gets unpaired, and music stops streaming. You can't just turn on the radio again and assume bluetooth music will resume.
However, bluetooth phone conversations will continue even after you turn off engine.

Thought I'd share this story for all y'all who are trying to sit still waiting for your car:
I went out in the Golf R with my lady in downtown Denver. The place was totally jammed, and we pulled up to the valet. He started explaining that their lot was full, then he hesitated for a second, and said "well, maybe I can just keep it out front here." In Los Angeles, those spots are usually for Bentleys and Lambos. I'm not much into status and all that BS, but I have to admit, it felt nice that the valet would consider the car in the "out front" category...
Out here in the suburbs, most people don't know the R I think. Occasionally someone will say, "hey cool color." So it's also a stealth vehicle. I definitely like that.
Point is you are going to love your car when it comes!

Hey there, based on the schedule, sounds like your car is likely on the Seven Seas Highway. You can see the schedule here:
http://www.pwl.de/static/schedules/vwl_hb.pdf
And then you can search for your boat's position on this site:
http://www.marinetraffic.com
It looks like your boat left Germany on 5/9. While it's out in the middle of the ocean there isn't usually updated info, but you'll get info once it hits Georgia. Here's your boat's itinerary:

I'm also in Denver and my car came through Houston. It was supposed to be rail loaded after that, but apparently they put it on a truck and it ended up at the dealer like a few days after port arrival in Houston. I was unprepared with financing and selling my GTI, so if you have stuff to line up, do it early because the car may come in quicker than they might tell you.

Which port would Northern California R's most likely go through?
Can lucky Nor Cal owners chime in if they know their port of entry.
#1881
#1882
Maybe I should have been more explicit in my question.
I see the only California port is San Diego. I also see that no ship is scheduled to arrive in San Diego until June 25. That would suck for me as my expected date is June 4.
So the question still stands - Which port are Nor Cal R's coming through?
#1883
The Themis Leader arrived in San Diego last Wednesday supposedly carrying 800+ VWs. Maybe yours is coming early.

Click on Inbound Ships...looks like they haven't updated it since before 5/9, but I was notified that my R hit the port on 5/9. That was the only ship it could have been on and I'm in the Bay Area.

Can the 2013 Golf R's be ordered yet? Asked my local dealer last week and they said no still.
#1887
If you ordered a car now, it would be a 2013. There is a thread here somewhere that says any car built in June, or maybe July, will be a 2013. There is no difference, other than the year, in the cars. You could still find a 2012 R on a lot somewhere, and most likely find what you are looking for. There are not many options for this car, so it is pretty easy to find what you want.
I almost bought one out of FL a few weeks ago, but my dealer told me the car was finally hitting production at the end of April, after ordering mid December. The FL dealer told me he had just ordered an R and it was the first time it was labeled a 2013.
It looks like there will only be 1500 or so 2012 Golf R's on the road in the US.

Hello,
Would it be possible to get the latest on R35860. Greatly appreciate the help!
Thanks!
#1890
I have to respectfully disagree with you there.
There are two body styles, two trim levels, and five colors.
That equals about a 5% chance that you'll find exactly you want. Not great odds.
You'd probably be better off ordering and waiting if you want something specific.
