I'm in the process of replacing the water distribution pipe and am wondering what the consequences are of removing the smog pump permanently.

It's a 97 VR6 in a 94 body, so codes are not really an issue.

I searched but only one thread came up about deleting it. Do people typically do this?

Besides capping the valve, do I need to worry about anything else, such as the "chip" suggested in this thread: http://jettajunkie.com/vw-jetta/show...780#post109780

I'm pretty sure all you need to do is plug up the hole. If you want the CEL to go away, you'll need a chip from BFI or C2 (there may be others that get rid of it, I'm not 100% sure if there's others but there should be). I'm pretty positive that's all there is to it. I hope so anyway. I deleted the SAI on mine and threw in a 42DD plug and a BFI Stage 1 PEM.

Thanks, man. I have already plugged it up so I guess I'm ready to go.

Just wondering, what do most people do with the vacuum line that comes off the valve?

(It looks it runs to a solenoid and then toward the FPR)
