Never made a "build thread" of sorts, and now is the time to start one up.

I picked the car up in February of this year and it has gone through some changes since.

Pick it up from my cousin, bone stock, on coilovers and audio system. Since then I have done multiple things, including: wheels, rear seat delete with custom false floor, joey modded headlights, MKIV manifold swap, etc etc.

Starting within the next week. The bodywork is going to start. There are about 10 dings around the whole car that need to get pulled and filled. Some semi-serious rust on the drivers side rear fender and some shaved bits that are all going to get done before anything else. It wont be painted until spring time, but the main reason for starting the body work is so the rust doesnt go any further than it already is. Also, that way, when spring roles around, all thats needed is to fix some small things and then primer and paint the car.

The engine bay has sorta kinda been started as far as shaving goes. I did a MKIV manifold swap on it, relocated the battery to the trunk, and took out some unneeded ****. Once the exterior gets done, then the seal sealer will get removed, holes will be filled, sheet metal will be laid, and some repainting of the engine bay will ensue.

How it looked when i first got it:

Tint removed, kayne shadezzz, joey modded headlights, and some other small bits.

Then came the wheels, rear seat delete, and the manifold swap

I will update this thread with pictures of the rear seat delete and false floor, along with some engine bay pictures...

Ended up putting the rear seats back in, as i decided to reinstall my sub/amp into the trunk....

Car as of tomorrow, is going to get the bodywork all sorted out tomorrow.

    List of things:
-Shaved top cup on door handles
    -Shaved GTI rear emblem
-Shaved rear wiper hole and emblem
-Shaved rear license tub lock cylinder hole
    -Shaved wiper nozzles
-Shaved NA front bumper (fog and side markers shaved, body line kept)
-And fix some surface rust and a few dings

Going to try and get it painted before the Import Alliance Fall Meet...we'll see though.

    Update:

Bodywork has started tonight for a couple hours.

There was rust(bad surface rust) on the rear fender, some dings in a few places, and a crease on the front fender that had to get pushed out and fixed.

Everything was pulled out as much as possible, then a very small amount of filler, more sanding, and some filler primer.

All was done tonight, once i get access to a welder, the shaving of the hatch will commence. Most likely this weekend.

Pictures: Some photos werent taken, as it was too dark.

Drivers side rear fender rust. Looks alot worse than it was. Just some severe surface rust. Also, you can see the crease that is right next to the moulding, which was pin-hammered out.

car before by RED2SLO4U, on Flickr

Photo of the driver rear fender where the rust was, this was right when it was sanded down to remove rust, crease was removed as much as possible. Dont have pictures of the filler and primer stage.

More picture will be uploaded once my internet stops ****in up...

BY THE WAY. It didnt take too long to sand down to the metal, literally about a second with a DA sander on the paint, and it was down to bare metal. Damn thats scary, **** you single stage.

I'm glad you're getting the exterior cleaned up! I saw that rust at H2O and was sad.

    UPDATE

Everything has been welded up that needs to be welded:
    - Wiper Nozzles
    - Antenna
    - Rear Emblem
    - Rear Wiper Hole
    - Rear "Swag" Lines, under tailights
    - Hole from dent remover guy, there was a plug in the drivers door jam from where he drilled a hole and then put a plug in it afterwards, it started to rust also.

On wednesday the plan is to get those things skim coated with filler, sanded smooth, and primered for now. Then that Friday(hopefully), it will be in the paint booth.

Edit for some photos. FINALLY some Engine Bay pictures also

Yes, plastic was cut to accomodate for filter. I wanted it to "hug" the manifold as must as possible.

Passenger Rear Quarter 1 by RED2SLO4U, on Flickr

Roof 1 by RED2SLO4U, on Flickr

Yes, you can still see where everything was, just need to lay a skim coat of filler on those spots, and itll be good to go.

A little more bodywork needs to be done to this rear quarter, its where it had some bad surface rust.

Paintless dent remover spot, plug welded in and filled a little.

Still need to be skim coated.

Yeah ive thought it over, i was gonna shave the top half of the cup, but figured it would be a little tough getting that body line to look right. So, im just gonna color match the door handles and be done with it

Seeing the polished intake setup now, im rethinking the whole "blacked out" engine bay(plans were to paint/powdercoat everything black), but im kinda leaning toward polishing that manifold...
