Awesome. A guy in our club has a beat-to-hell Festiva with the engine/transmission from a ~92 Protege ES. 125 HP, revvy as hell. That thing is awesome; I'd imagine the 1.6T out of the 323GTX would make it even better.

I remember reading this article when that issue dropped and thinking "I WANT THAT!"

I missed this one. I used to read GRM off-and-on, it's a great mag. Builds like this make me happy.

I can't believe this article is a decade old. I remember receiving that issue in the mail and immediately looking for a rust free Festiva. One was never found, and I moved on to VW's. We all make mistakes.

      Soup it up?

I like the suped-up spelling better.
It suggests super and not a hot liquid treat in a bowl.

Too bad the Festiva never got he factory hot rod treatment.
The Ford/Mazda parts bin could have made for one fun and cheap car.
But then again- they didn't want the Festiva to be faster than the Escort GT.
heck- we didn't even get a mazzer 1.8 turbo Escort.

I know this car personally. It was epic when fresh. Sadly, after he sold it to some kid it was getting bagged into the ground and then was mysteriously "vandalized" to the point of being totalled. Another guy has been very slowly putting it back together last i heard and should be back on the streets in the not too distant future.

Sure, but the Shogun was an expensive beast to build.
The Fastiva is more of a personal project car build.
