Finally put the cross member reinforcement bar I've had laying around for a couple of years in. Center mounting point was welded off center so fitting it was sort of a pain. Also had to rework the horn bracket a bit.

What is this plug in the firewall? Im looking for options for my rabbit. There are a few holes I do not want to weld shut.

They're just chromed metal hole plugs. I got them at Lowe's. I forget the size on those specifically, but they come in 1/8" increments. Left those holes open thinking I might run the megasquirt harness from that side.

Wow very clean! And as all said you do really good work, and I see you have good ideas running in your mind you put to function, as I do! Haha look for my build thread here shortly, should be similar to your car...

Love every bit about this! Nice work.

I wanted to ask about the headliner. I have been looking at theirs for my 84 Rabbit GTI with sunroof. I found bows online, but I am uncertain of the clips, etc for them. SO two questions (if you recall):
    1) How long is each bow?
    2) Do you have any photos of the install, other than those posted?

I had a couple extra bows, but I gave them away. I think I saw the clips online recently, I'll check tomorrow, I'll also post some more pictures then as well.

I looked this morning for the clips, but no joy. Really thought they were here:

The P/N is 171867549. On a non sun roof car you need 12.

Bunch of picture, not sure they will show you much more though.

Unbelievably Perfect! If mine turns out half as good as this I will be happy. Great job, sir.

Hauling ass around a clover leaf last night and heard a loud pop in the back. Found this this morning. Torqued to spec when I dropped the beam a few weeks ago. I guess I must have overdone it and it had enough...

    Actually wasn't that bad.

Found some tape and started drilling.

Dropped in a 10.9 bolt - had to enlarge the opening to get a 17mm socket down. Pretty tight - probably could have cut some more material away and welded it. But this should be fine.

    Lock nut and washer.

Finally worked out/sourced all the junk to allow for water at the wipers.
Found early style squirters at the yard last week. Bottle is for the rear washer from an 85/86 Mk2. I left provisions in the engine compartment when I was building the original harness for the diesel style washer bottle. But I was never able to find one. I added a harness extension to route to the opposite side rain tray. Also made a bracket to support the bottle from the bottom while still allowing the tray to properly drain.

That sucks about that bolt. But at least you fixed it.

How do you like those poly rear bushings?

Meh - they're alright. They were cheap and other than when brake fluid got on one, they have been quite. I'd rather OE, but couldn't find any new.

Honestly, I considered the poly rear axle bushings to be a HUGE improvement to my old Cabby. But, it was also with a SII rear sway and brand new sway bushings....

The one in the car is from a Jetta. The Cabby is the same.

New 10.1 front brakes. Pedal is a little deeper with the new MC.

    Old Mk2 9.4 vented

    New Scirocco/4000q 10.1 vented

When I went out to bed the pads I managed to lock the rear. Had a moderately large air bubble in the front driver's side.
