Hello first time posting my own thread in the photography forum, i have a compatibility question.
I love my Sony Nex-5n but my lens options are limited unless i purchase an adapter. My question. Is an older style lens (i.e. SMC Pentax-A 70-210 f/4.0, or M42 Super Takumar 55mm f/1.8) worth mating up with this new style camera? Will it hurt the quality of the picture? I know when i take videos i will lose AF, but that doesn't bother me. I am also open to sugestions to. Thanks in adavnce for your time.

Only reason why i would like to do this is because sony E-mount Lens are kinda on the expensive side, and to get an adapter for the Sony Alpha A-mount is an LA-EA1 Adapter $170.00 But for any other lens its anywere from $30-$100.

It's worth every penny getting an adpater. Old lenses can be had for next to nothing and will be a pleasure to use on the NEX thanks to it's manual focus aides

If I had a lot of disposable income, I'd get a NEX and some Leica lenses.

They look like they're made for the NEX. The only bad part is I would have to sell all of my Canon gear to afford the body and a single lens.

Yeah definitely get an adapter. From what I've heard, that is the main reason to buy an NEX camera.

Ok so i ordered a Pentax-K adapter, I will be buying one or two more adapters one for the sony/minolta-A, and Leica-LM Lens. Does this sound god or should i switch the Sony/Minolta-A for Nikkor, or Cannon? LMK

Also i will post some pics of the Pentax Lens on the NEX-5N when it comes in the mail, they said by nov 1st i should have it.

Thanks again for your input folks hope to hear more, and some C&C when i post some pics up.

I'm really exited to see that other lens manufacturers are going to now offer E-mount lenses!!!
So now its just a waiting game for more news and release dates. But i did order another lens adapter its for Nikon lens found a few Nikon lens on craigslist just got to go look at them and see if there worth it.

    That isn't a Leica lens, it's a Cosina Voigtlander Nokton 40mm 1.4 Classic.

I believe it is actually a Voigtlander 35mm/1.4. I should have clarified, I mean't Leica M mount lenses. I am far too cheap to ever buy a genuine Leica lens.

So I just purchased a Sony NEX-5 for christmas with the 18-55 lens. I like it so far,but am worried it may be a bit advanced for me. I'm no pro, but wanted to invest in something that will treat me really well in the years to come.

    Anyone have input, suggestions, reviews?

    Thanks!!!!

I however will be doing a write up on how to do a optical remote flash if everything works out as planed... fingers crossed

Ok so i found a company that makes adapters for the nex, to work with many other lenses.

But for Canon EF Lenses you'll get the added benefits of all the electronics in it!
True electronic integration of aperture diaphragm - let camera automatically choose aperture
in P or S exposure modes, or dial in yourself on the camera body in A or M modes. Powered by camera body. No external power source required. Wide open button (opposite of depth-of-field preview function) makes manual focusing easy.

it's something i've been waiting for. EF to E mount adapter with aperture control. i think i'll leave the $400 in my pocket for now until i see some solid reviews since this is a company i've never heard of. $400 is insanely steep, though. i think i'll keep doing the DOF trick to change aperture on my EF lenses.
