Got the lens baby composer with tilt transformer in the mail today. I kept my 35/1.8 Nikkor from my Nikon setup, stoked to start messing with this.

I almost bought a NEX, but didn't because it wouldn't work with a PW. I'm probably going to pick up and Oly PEN.![]()

ok, so i bought my own NEX5 yesterday with the 16/2.8. have you guys seen a nice hood for this lens? i don't like using UV filters and don't like the hoods that screw into place.
#42
Sony has a twist on hood for it. But if you get the super wide angle conversion lens it has a built in hood.

Got the HLV-F20S flash today and it is much much better than the stock flash. Comes with a diffuser and bounce capability. Works great from what i can tell so far.
#44
thanks! it turns out that it's the same hood for the 18-55. ok, now that I have put in some real time with the camera, I'm falling in love with it even more! I think I might sell my 550D to my bro in law now and just pick up a 5D classic since I don't want to let my canon lenses go.
#45
you guys didn't ell me about "peaking"! this feature is amazing. quick question, though...how do you get the focus spot to stay still when the camera goes to sleep so it won't keep re-centering when i go to MF assist?

just wanted to come back in this thread to let you know you were right. the thing is, i've played with my bro's NEX5 for a few minutes at a time...not enough time to get used to it, to know it, to love it. (pardon the drama)
using the camera to shoot from the waist gives me a great perspective, one where i had to go down on a knee when shooting with my canon so i can put my eyeball to the VF. yeah...i've sold my DSLR to my bro-in-law. i think the only thing i'll miss is the mic in and my awesome external flash that i never mastered anyway. i hope somebody starts making radio poppers so i can still use my flash off camera.
next purchase will be a wireless remote and an intervalometer and of course, whatever MF primes i can find for a steal.
this little camera has got me so excited again and refueled the fires.![]()

OK since i read a while back that sony released the rights for other companies to build E-mount lenses (correct me if i'm wrong) but here is the first two that i have been able to find.
http://www.amazon.com/Rokinon-FE8M-N...=1NAXOGIN1BFN4
http://www.amazon.com/Zenitar-50mm-M...=1NAXOGIN1BFN4
i have never heard of either brand (because i'm still kinda new to the whole photography thing) but the Rokinon lens has been getting great reviews. And for the price its not that bad. I'm still keeping my eyes open for other lenes for the NEX cams
“A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?”

that got me interested. here's a review of the zenitar t/s.
i've been wanting a rokinon 85/1.4 for a while. all the rokinon lenses i've been looking at have great reviews.
#53
I may still end up finding aused Nex 5 down the road as the sensor is supposed to be more legacy lens friendly that the m43 sensor. If you can stand manual, and with the peaking feature )on the 5 as well as the 7?) it shouldn't be a problem, try finding older Minolta, Konica, Rokkor, or other manual lenses and adapters to work with them.
IIRC, e-bay has 45 f/2 Rokkor lenses going for $30ish.

I knew they would come out with this.
next purchase i do belive after i buy the Flash.

trict, looks like you're really updated on accessories. please post when you find a standard hot-shoe adapter.![]()
#58
Trying to be, its either that or i'm just going to save up sell the 5N and buy the NEX-7... But i don't think that's going to happen. I know some made a "cold" shoe adapter, but i think either sony HAS to make an adapter (due to the camera being smart and all that) or sony has to release the information on the top connector on the camera so third party companies can make one. Unless someone has the balls to do it them self...I wont hold my breath for that.

i'll stick to my $8 wireless remote.it works great by the way.
#61
Yep any sony alpha remote works perfect with all the NEX cameras. Also some of the no name brand ones work to.
Has anyone figuered out how to shoot timelaps with the nex???
I really want to try this out
FYI sony has now started shipping the 24mm 1.8 ziess lens, the 50mm 1.8 lens, and the 55-210 zoom lens. Still waiting on a hot shoe adapter... How do you guys like the other flash sony sells? not the kit one the bigger one. LMK i'm not to happy with some of my photos i have take with the flash that came with my kit...

you can make your own wireless intervalometer for under $40. it's something i'll be trying out soon.
24/1.8 would be the perfect walk around lens for me. right now, i either have one of my legacy 28, 35 or 50mm on the camera. but AF would be nice to have sometimes.
as far as the flash...i never use it. i did a few test shot with my yongnuo 565 strobe set to slave and it does trigger with the included NEX flash. the only thing that sucks is that you cannot disable the preflash on the NEX so it sets it off twice.
#63
yep it will be awhile before i can afford this one...

And the price is super cheap
I'm still keeping my eye ut for other accessories.

sweet. thanks for the link. i may not end up tearing up my current canon intervalometer and sony remote now. and i've read about tempus. some NEX users were using the analog version before this iR remote came out.
#66
Yea no problem i'll be ordering mine sometime next week after computer stuff comes in. I can't wait to get my hands on the 50mm 1.8 i would love to have that for video's, and ofcourse auto focus. But there all out of stock right now maybe for my birthday next month they'll have it and thats my gift to myself![]()

So I just purchased a Sony NEX-5 for christmas with the 18-55 lens. I like it so far,but am worried it may be a bit advanced for me. I'm no pro, but wanted to invest in something that will treat me really well in the years to come.
Anyone have input, suggestions, reviews?
Thanks!!!!

i am far from a pro... But the NEX is an amazing camera thats easy to use and is as advance as you want it to be. you can leave everything on auto and you photos will still look very good, Point and shoot quality though. Once you get used to holding it and playing with it your going to want to explore it put it into manual mode and adjust things here and there and see how the photos turn out then, plus you can read on other peoples situations like with lighting and clouds ect. and see what they did to there cameras adjustments to overcome those situation. It takes time for right now have fun with the camera. Also if you have some extra cash buy 2 lenses the 16mm 2.8 and the 50mm 1.8 these will help you out to.

I'd think about picking up the 50mm lens, but one the fence about the 16mm wide angle. I dont want to change lenses for every photo/location, but would be open to having an option or 2. Which would be suggested of the two?
I have been playing with the new camer a bit. What are some good basic settings to adjust to give that perfect pic?
Also, I realize when shooting in full 14 megapixel all the time, it'll make BIGGER photo's which tends to be a pain when uploading to email/ facebook, etc.... assistance?

it's something i've been waiting for. EF to E mount adapter with aperture control. i think i'll leave the $400 in my pocket for now until i see some solid reviews since this is a company i've never heard of. $400 is insanely steep, though. i think i'll keep doing the DOF trick to change aperture on my EF lenses.
