I have been playing with the new camer a bit. What are some good basic settings to adjust to give that perfect pic?

Also, I realize when shooting in full 14 megapixel all the time, it'll make BIGGER photo's which tends to be a pain when uploading to email/ facebook, etc.... assistance?
i like using my 50mm for those detail shots and portraits but i'm starting to find that it's too long for a walk around lens. i've started using my 35/1.8 more but it's not bokehlicious enough for my tastes. i only use the 16/2.8 as a "party" lens since it's fast enough in the dark and it's my only lens with autofocus.

there is no one setting that will give you a perfect pic every time. it always depends on what you're shooting and what you want it to look like.

i like to shoot in RAW because i'm terrible at getting the right white balance. and hard drive storage is relatively cheap so i don't mind having huge files at all.

    happy shooting.

yes, but when emailing and posting pics on social media sites, HUGE pictures tend to cause a bit more of an issue....how to adjust the size on this particular camera?

read the manual, it will tell you how to change the picture quality and size.

Hot shoe adapter but its just to mount flashes and mics to it wont electrically connect it to anything on the camera...

I however will be doing a write up on how to do a optical remote flash if everything works out as planed... fingers crossed

I like using my Nippon Kogaku 50/1.4 on my NEX, too.

    I think these are shot @ F2.

Those shots are amazing i have to get better with editing some of these photos. I don't have PS or LR. But i do have Aperture 3, i know its not the best but its just for now.

Here are some of my mediocre shots.

80-200mm f/3.5 RMC Tokina Pentax K mount lens

    50mm f/1.7Minolta MD Rokkor-X

And my little one, over exposed i know its hard to get that smile quick enough

Ok so i found a company that makes adapters for the nex, to work with many other lenses.

But for Canon EF Lenses you'll get the added benefits of all the electronics in it!
True electronic integration of aperture diaphragm - let camera automatically choose aperture
in P or S exposure modes, or dial in yourself on the camera body in A or M modes. Powered by camera body. No external power source required. Wide open button (opposite of depth-of-field preview function) makes manual focusing easy.

    Yep will do.
The only down side is that it recomends not putting a flash on the adapter itself the weight of the flash could break it so you have to use a trigger.

My dad just got one of these and I was playing around with it...very nice camera, the ergonomic is a bit awkward after using a Sony Alpha 700 for the last 3 years. But all the functions are there, and 3 custom buttons gets the job done in reducing menu diving. The 18-55 kit lens seems to turn out great pictures compare to my previous experience with Minolta 18-70 kit lens for my old 5D, and the little camera feel very solid. I kinda want one now...Focus Peaking is an awesome feature...

Trying to get him to spend some money on it. Is the 16mm pancake lens a good buy? Would be nice to get him to get an adapter to get some range finder lens, but I don't think he is up for the potential cost...

Aperture has a metric sh!t-ton of editing capabilities, most photographers try to stay out of Photoshop (slows down the workflow) and do corrections in either Lightroom or Aperture. Photoshop is for major corrections or graphic design. Work on learning photography, stay away from Photoshop until your photos are good enough to stand on their own.

And BTW I did take your advice. stuck with Apereture, and i was given Lightroom 3 for FREE!!! Its amazing and i feel like its really simple to use. Also i spent a lot of my time just fixing the way i take photos and the results have been steller for me. Thanks again for the advice.

I really want to get one of the NEXs....the 5N my dad has is pretty neat. The new 5R looks to be some improvement on that, the 6 has the OLED viewfinder from the 7, but no touchscreen. Not really sure which one is worth it...right now I am leaning towards 5R, but 5N is getting cheaper...

Yes i'm going for the a99 i have been looking into going full frame for a few months now and it was either the Canon 5d mk2 or 3 or the nikon d800. But now that sony has one i'm going to try it and compare it to the other 3 and see how it fairs. Plus its on the lower end of the price scale too.

With the 5n, is there anyway to single out certain colors or make the entire photo black and white EXCEPT for a shade of red, blue, etc? I can't seem to Figure out how to do that?

Lastly, am I able to shoot any sort of HDR pictures?

    Yes
    Shoot mode ----> Picture effect ----> Part R/Part G/ Part B/Part Y

^^This "creates an image which retains the colour selected, but converts others to black and white"
    is that what you mean?

Go to your image size>Quality>FINE Fine>Brightness/Color>Picture Effect.
But make sure your in Shoot mode P/A/S/M.

You will loose a lot of your frame when doing this though.

And some recent shots i did with the 5N LMK what you guys think.

And i'm playing with this behemoth of a canon for a few weeks to see if canon might be the way to go for an upgrade. (canon 6d to be specific)
