There are a couple pics around that I think might be it but does anyone have a decent picture of the factory "extended" roof edge hatch spoiler?

I presume you're referring to the Votex spoiler, since it's really the only one available.

Done deal. Stock one just looks too small and out of place. Thanks Joel.

Could someone share the rear spoiler installation best practices? Is everyone using adhesives or double sided tape? It will be great to get some feedback- I got one but it came w/o any installation instructions. Thanks!

it's generally done with double sided tape. Clean the surfaces very well.. and tape.

Factory adhesive here. Applied myself to make sure it wasn't done by a dealer monkey. Scuff and apply as per instructions. The only thing about the factory adhesive is that it's required to be heated prior to application. The dealers/factory have a special heating tool for it as well as the appropriately-sized "caulk-gun-like" tool. I heated mine up in the oven for about a half hour @ 300 and used thick gloves to handle. Liberal use of tape until set (12-24 hrs. for full cure).

Double-sided tape will work but once it's stuck, you're not going to be able to adjust it. If you go the factory adhesive route, make sure the adhesive isn't past the expiration date on the tube.

Thanks for the instalation tips replies- I think I may need an adhesive in order to get a better fit. I purchased the spoiler on ebay- supposed to be OEM for $240 primed and "ready to be painted". Great deal-However, I noticed many imperfections- and even a small crack on the corner thus I suppose this needs to be fix prior to installation or painting...not really fully ready to be painted.

The question is...is this normal or did I get a bad one and should attempt to return it? Not sure how many of you got the original votex piece primed or pre-painted...for those that got the primed piece...did you also noticed this? I still need to go to the auto shop for painting- perhaps I worry too much...but today I kind of wish I could go back and spent a bit more on the original pre-painted one... feedback is apreciated.

Not sure if it is really an oem. I am trying to figure out how to load pics form my phone..

The OEM spoiler should have a the Votex name moulded into it and quite a bit of VW manufacturing stamping into it (IIRC). Post pics when you get a chance. Mine was ordered (painted) at the time I ordered my car so it came in the original box.
