Volk are expensive but impressive wheels. Any thoughts on them for the Golf R?

I don't want 19" wheels at this time based on research, so let's talk 18's at least.

Volk has some nice wheels but I've just started checking for Golf R options. Not much but a few are available

The RE30's are very light weight.
18X8 5X112 50mm OS. Specs seem right on for the car.
      Bronze would be v nice.

What OS is the stock R wheel?

What do you think compared to BBS? Something like the CH's (the CH-R are only 19" unfortunately)?

      thx

Volks are great wheels. Most of their offerings are forged one-piece wheels (some of their wheels are forged 2-piece) so they're pretty much bulletproof and stupid light (about 17.5 pounds for their 18x8 wheels). In my mind, they are THE wheel to get if you want to track your car or are primarily concerned with performance. The downside, obviously, is that you pay a little more for this quality (probably about $3500 for a set), but I would not say that they are overpriced. For one-piece forged wheels, they are a great bang for the buck.

In terms of appearance, I've never been a huge fan of the classic TE37s on most cars (I think they look the best on JDM cars), and don't think they'd look great on the R. The RE30s though are a different story. I've not seen them on a MkVI, but they look sweet on the MkV Rs that I've seen. They were one of my top 3 choices. The Progressive MEs are similar and would also probably look pretty good.

Volk does offer the specs you mentioned, and they'd be great on the R. They are the identical specs as the stock wheels (18x8, 5x112, ET50). Sticking with the 8" wide wheel, you could probably go a little more aggressive with the offset (ET45 or ET48) if Volk offers that.

You're correct that the BBS CH-R is not available in the 18" size. The plain CH's are, but they're heavier. I actually love the CH-Rs and plan on getting them for my R. They're significantly heavier than the Volks (thanks to being a cast, as opposed to a forged wheel), but the 19x8.5 size that I want are still at least as light (24 pounds) as, if not a couple pounds lighter than, the stock Talladegas, so I'm not real worried about it. The CH-Rs are also plenty strong and they're a sexy looking wheel. Being a BMW guy, I've always had a thing for the M3 CSL-style wheels. I also love the titanium finish available on the CH-Rs. Price wasn't a factor in my decision, but they're about $800-$1,000 less expensive than the Volks.

Long story short, I think the RE30s are an awesome choice.

Personally I don't like the look of the Volk's, I do appreciate the strength and weight of the wheels though. To me if I was going to spend that kind of money I would go with HRE something in the R40 series more specifically.
I used to like the BBS CH's but they are heavy and just look a little over used to me.

Although cast formed, the CH-Rs are only about 1.5 pounds heavier than the comparable 1-piece forged HRE P40s. And the HREs cost double the price. HRE makes great quality wheels though. I think the P43 would look stellar on the R.

OP, you might also check out the Advan wheels, specifically the RS. EDIT: Looks like the RS comes in an 18x8", 5x112, ET47 fitment, which would work nicely for the R.

I was comparing the price of the HRE to the Volks not the CH's....It just depends what is important to the OP.....Looks? Weight? Or a hybrid of both? The style of a wheel is so subjective, it depends what the individual wants to achieve with a new wheel.

Thx for the info guys. Keep it coming.

The look of the Volk RE30's are quite nice, but don't blow me away. I really like the rarity of them and the lightness. The car will be quicker with them.

The CH-R are pretty, the CH's less so. It seems the middle of the CH rim is larger, like there is a solid piece in the middle that is dinner-plate-sized. This I don't like. It makes the holes in the rims look smaller than the solid middle, which is a little wacky. And it blocks the view of the nice sized brakes the R comes with.

As I understand the HRE's make the Volk look inexpensive. I'm willing to pay for quality and lightness, but I prefer the look of the Volk's over the HRE's and they cost less.

Thx for the Advan recommendation. Forgot about them. Price is similar to the Volk's. The RS and RZ look very nice. I couldn't find the RS in 112 bolt spacing in a US website, but I did find the RZ's, 48mm OS and gold. Hawt. The RS shows the 112 bolt spacing available at the AU site. Did you have a US source for the RS Advans?

I'm avoiding 19's because of the potential fitment issues (rubbing, fender rolling, etc) and the harsh ride that is inevitable. Anybody know what the fitment issues are, considering stock R height (15mm lower than GTI)?

Dam I just posted on this to day in the here in the MKVI forum!! I'm rocking CE28n's I got slightly used off of Vortex. After rocking this set on my MKIV.:R, Volk's have a fan for life! If/when I pick up the VI no doubt a set of Volk's will be on my Volk's! 15.5 lbs per wheel! 18 X 8.5!

I want some Flat Black GR2's in 18x8.5 et 42!

Not sure if this is the same width and offset on this Scirocco, in fact, I doubt it, but it should be a reasonable fitment option.

      I love Volks. I used to have CE28N's on my '04 S2000:

Personally though I'm not sure if they really suit a VW. I really want BBS wheels for my Golf R

I'll do a little thread necromancing here.

Started considering the RE30s little pricey but man are those things light.

Of course I also gotta say the new G25s look mighty tasty as well.

Thinking either of them could look pretty good on a CSG :R and perform well for track days in the summer.

      Yep...I've seen right around $800/ea.

But they are really light, look good, and very strong which up in New England is pretty important...

Yeah, I've been going back and fourth with wheels. Can't make a choice for the life of me.

Paying for 2-3k for wheels nearing 20lbs isn't what I want to do. Seriously saying screw it, and getting the 18'' OZ Alleggerita HLTs in Gold at just over 17lbs.

It's looking like that's what I'll do. The gold looks really nice on CW, and it'd be a change of pace from the direction a lot of these guys are going with their Rs. The look has really grown on me as well. When I first seen them, I thought they were nice, but meh.. Now, I really like them, and I think they look great!

The weight reduction was nice-just feels a tiny bit quicker and faster responding.

The bigger/better difference was the stiffer sidewall on the Potenza RE970AS Pole Positions

Well, that is a substantial loss... I forget the calculation, but 1lbs of unsprung weight is equal to 6lbs of sprung weight err something like that. Plus, the OEM wheels are like like bricks. They'll be used for winter.

I am considering using the OEM wheels for winter also. Is there a way to protect them against all the ice removal materials?? The stock wheels (for winter) will sure look better than the 16" steels I have on my GTI.
