That, and there is far more miatas on the road than S2000. S2000 only sold 100k cars worldwide in it's 10 year run. Miata sells that and some change every refresh/ mid model change.

I don't think it's so much theft of the car itself as it is theft of the seats.

But now that InlinePro has released a kit for F2XC swap, I think S2000 theft in general will go up a lot.

My seats are locked down with wheel locks. To be honest, I'm more worried about the top getting slashed up.

To be honest, theres probably not going to be much demand for the F swap. Most people would rather just get a K, since those are more abundant, and they make just as much power.

How similar are the F and K-series? I always just assumed they were pretty much the same except slight changes to make one better for Transverse FWD fitment.

I've always been under the impression that the F2x is the "father" of the K series. Pretty similar engines though.

Every day I kick myself in the ass for not buying one. Even though my DD is faster, the S2000 just has everything going for it.

I leave my doors unlocked to prevent the top from getting slashed. If thieves want something from it, they will get it anyway. This way if they want to try and steal the seats they don't have to slash my top.

Too bad once they freely open the door, they will be introduced to my seat locks.

    Want one so bad.

A coworker of mine has a 2003 with 14,000 miles on it in great shape (the paint leaves a little to be desired) that he really wants to sell me, and I really want to buy it. We haven't talked price, but KBB really inflates its value thanks to the low mileage. Last year of the AP1, which has its appeal.

But then there's another local S2k for sale with 74,000 miles on it, MY2004. First year of AP2, which has its own appeal as well. Asking price: $15,500.

And then there's the fact that my wife is quitting her job because it makes her miserable and we really don't need that meager income, coupled with leasing the new Focus in November. Why didn't I just buy an S2k and a winter beater?

$15k is a little rich for an 04 ap2, imo.

Regardless of opinion, that price is very close to the market value if it's in decent shape.

I just wish s2ki didn't perpetually time-out here at work. Dunno what it is about that site, but our proxy and the s2ki web server just can't talk to one another. Then I could actually do some research on market prices.

Against my better judgement, I'm gonna subscribe to this thread. The E30 thread made me feel like I need one already. A few more S2k pic posts and I'll be needing one of those as well.

bad news...once you drive one hard, you'll never want anything else under 15k.

The same reason no one seems to hate the cars posted on here for being slammed or have huge wings mounted on them. S2000's are an exception to everything simply because they'r just that bad ass.

Wait... WHAT?? How can someone be a member of TCL since 2000 and not remember that the low torque of the S2000 has been a point of raving mad arguments ever since the car came out? It has ALWAYS been a hot button topic.

droptop, god himself created the shifter/clutch/flywheel combo, 20% more power, and comes with legitimate sticky and wider tires from the factory.

And people hate the S2000 too, just not as much from what I can tell.

The power is the big problem for some folks, at least the S2000 makes HP up top.. The S2000 would literally beat the BRZ by about 10 car lengths in the 1/4 mile for example, and the S2000 isn't even that fast going straight..

That is what makes the car fun in my opinion. It's engaging. Honestly, the shifter is part of the magic of the car. If it had even an average shifter I wouldn't enjoy the car 1/2 as much as I do.

People will find something to complain about with everything.

It's funny because I actually like downshifting and rev matching, its a blast with this thing. My old Mazdaspeed3 made way more torque than the S2, but I prefer the S2000 power delivery.. It is not fun to rev to 5800 RPM and need to shift.

the s2000 (in base non-CR) form was never this expensive. it should be noted that an AP1 without options was in the 32k range...which given similar equipment (leather seats) in a BRZ you're within 5k or less in price.
